JOB TITLE: TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT SPECIALIST
LOCATION: Grade School, High School, and District Office
CHARACTERISTICS: Classified employee
REPORTS TO: Technology Coordinator
WORK CALENDAR: 210 days per year (prorated for the remainder of the 2024-25 fiscal year)
EVALUATION: Evaluated annually by the Technology Coordinator
OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION
The Technology Support Specialist provides front-line primary technical support to students and staff when they encounter technical issues relating to hardware, software, and peripherals. They also support the work of the Technology Coordinator and staff use of technology as it relates to instruction and productivity. They are also responsible for responding to, documenting, and resolving support requests in a timely manner.
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Possess knowledge of District policies and regulations relating to areas of responsibility.
- Provide exceptional customer service in person, via phone, and via email as appropriate to resolve technical support requests as well as troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
- Follow District technology equipment standards and provide input on decisions related to new hardware and software acquisitions.
- Deploy, install, maintain, and upgrade district-owned staff and student technology, including computers, printers, peripheral devices, and software to meet District support standards and the needs of the District.
- Use District standards and procedures to help support network connectivity for end-users, including troubleshooting problematic physical connections and working to follow Riverdale technology standards and procedures to ensure a secure network environment.
- As directed, provide training in the operation and use of systems, computers, and peripheral equipment to school personnel and students.
- Manage projects related to the acquisition and implementation of equipment and systems.
- Maintain technology hardware and software inventories per Riverdale policies and practices.
- Read, assimilate, and translate technical documentation in a clear, meaningful way for staff and students.
- Coordinate the procurement of technology equipment, replacement parts, and supplies as needed in accordance with District technology purchasing guidelines.
- Maintain the confidential nature of all information maintained on data systems and related to this position.
- Support all District technology goals, policies, and procedures.
- Work with the Technology Coordinator to ensure the effective operation of systems and equipment.
- Prompt and regular attendance.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in District-provided in-service activities and/or self-selected professional growth activities related to job responsibilities.
- Provide technical assistance to staff to support them in the completion of their work activities.
- Provide pickup and delivery services of computer equipment and software when necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS - QUALIFICATIONS
- Hands-on experience working in computer installation, maintenance, applications, and end-user support.
- Computer hardware, software, and network skills, preferably including ChromeOS, G Suite, and macOS.
- Problem-solving skills and knowledge in the maintenance of computers, printers, and related devices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills that build positive workplace rapport.
- Effective organizational skills, ability to self-manage, and enjoyment of assisting others with tech needs.
OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Oregon driver's license and excellent driving required.
- FBI fingerprint clearance is required.
- Valid First Aid/CPR-AED certification preferred.
- Genuine enjoyment of working with students and staff.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills that are effective with both students and staff.
- Respecting confidentiality in the workplace and maintaining workplace professionalism.
- Technical competencies, including computer hardware, operating systems, networking, audio-visual, etc.
EDUCATION / VOCATIONAL PREPARATION
Associate’s degree in technology or equivalent and periodic training to maintain current technical skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
When performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see, or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, use fingers and hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and move around inside and outside of buildings. The employee is occasionally required to push, pull, bend, stoop, crawl, kneel, and crouch. The employee must lift and/or move up to 35 lbs and occasionally 50 lbs.
The employee may occasionally climb stairs or ladders. The employee must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, with or without vision correction.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is public school offices, classrooms, and related structures. The noise level of the work environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high, depending upon the location, the student population, and current activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid and outdoor weather conditions, including seasonal heat and cold. The employee may occasionally be exposed to contagious diseases, bodily fluids, and blood-borne pathogens.
The employee may be exposed to moving parts of nearby machinery, a variety of cleaning agents, some hazardous chemicals and fumes, risk of electrical shock and mechanical vibration.
