Riverview Center for Growth is seeking a certified Peer Support Specialist to provide resource support to our clients and maintain our on-site food pantry and clothing closet. This position provides the opportunity for direct service with clients while being responsible for keeping the food pantry stocked and processing clothing donations in our clothing closet. The peer support specialist will provide peer-delivered services to individual adults and caregivers who need help navigating resources and community services to support their treatment or their child’s treatment at Riverview. The Peer Support Specialist will utilize their lived experience and specialized training to provide client-centered coaching and support to encourage the voice, choice and engagement of individuals and families in meeting their goals. A Peer Support Specialist has lived experience navigating mental health treatment and successfully managing their own mental health condition(s) OR who is/has been a parent or guardian that has navigated treatment and services for a child with emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. Job duties will be performed in various settings including office, residential, and community. Job duties will require driving within the community and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with individuals and families referred by Riverview’s programs
- Facilitate engagement, access and participation in services; help individual or family maintain meaningful involvement in their or their child’s planning process.
- Explore strengths, needs, culture and vision with the individual or family.
- Participate in care team meetings to ensure access, voice, and choice of individuals and families.
- Model effective communication, frame and reframe a concern to facilitate collaboration, patience and strengths-based approach.
- Provide a consistent source of encouragement and hope.
- Provide non-judgmental, unconditional support to individual, parent or caregiver.
- Maintain connection with the individual or parent/caregiver based on their needs and follow through on planned tasks and assignments.
- Model and support individuals and families to talk about sensitive issues, reframe negative concerns and manage respectful communication.
- Maintain personal and professional boundaries, appropriate to the peer role and to ensure the safety and protection of self and the families served.
- Participate in regular supervision with Peer Supervisor and Peer Coaching, and be able to implement feedback.
- Able and willing to accommodate flexibility in work schedule in order to meet individual’s or family’s needs – occasional evenings included.
- Represent core agency and program values and principles in all work settings.
- Develop and maintain constructive and positive relationships as a member of a team, demonstrating qualities of dependability, empathy, genuineness, respect as a team member and as a peer.
- Produce and maintain accurate and timely documentation according to Riverview’s requirements (e.g., visit notes in EHR, timesheets, and other paperwork as required).
- Maintain on-site food pantry and clothing closet, including stocking and ongoing organizing and processing donations in a timely manner.
- Attend staff meetings and scheduled trainings.
- Demonstrate cultural responsiveness to varying cultural characteristics and beliefs.
- Maintain strict confidentiality standards according to HIPAA.
- Maintain assigned office and community-based work schedule.
Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. An emphasis is placed on knowledge and growth from lived experience over formal education systems.
- Personal experience of being the primary caregiver of a child who is consuming mental health/behavioral health/substance abuse services. Demonstrated ability to cope with child(ren)’s diagnosis OR personal experience navigating mental health treatment and successfully managing your own mental health condition(s)
- Must be comfortable working out in the community including private homes.
- Experience working with adults and families in a community-based program preferred.
- Knowledge of community resources.
- Ability to work independently and part of a team.
- Must be highly organized and can successfully manage schedule and appointments
- Ability to work with diverse cultural, religious, racial, educational, socio-economic and alternative cultural backgrounds.
- Commitment to child safety and family stability.
- General knowledge of office machines and telephones
- Must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Must pass a criminal and abuse background check
- Must be able to drive and meet Riverview’s driving requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Oregon certified Family Peer Support Specialist (FSS)
OR
- Oregon certified Adult Mental Health Peer Support Specialist (PSS)
OR
- Oregon certified Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS)
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
