Job Title: Nurse – Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse

Qualifications of position:
· Must be at least 18 years old
· Must have a valid Kansas Nursing License
· Must be able to lift 50 pounds
· Must not have been convicted of a crime rationally related to their position
· Must have ability to maintain quality, safety and infection control standards
· Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of all resident information
· Must be able to speak and understand the English language
· Must successfully complete the certification requirements of the licensing state (if applicable)
· Must attend and participate in continuing educational programs, as needed
· Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
· Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, physicians, etc.
· Must possess willingness to work harmoniously with all other staff
· Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level in which they are currently functioning
· Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- Duties and Responsibilities:
- Follow established standards of nursing practices and implement organizational policies, procedures and protocols.
- Interpret existing policies and procedures to nursing assistants, restorative nursing assistants, residents, families and physicians.
- Provide direct resident care and initiate corrective action as necessary.
- Assure care hand-off to other shifts to provide continuity of care.
- On a day-to-day basis, assure adequate staffing to meet resident needs.
- Conduct resident rounds frequently, reporting problems to Director of Nursing as appropriate.
- Initiate urgent corrective actions that promote a safe environment and fulfill resident needs.
- Identify safety hazards and initiate corrective action, reporting issue and outcomes to Director of Nursing.
- Identify resident problems and initiate emergency care as required by resident condition and advanced directive.
- Follow, supervise and evaluate implementation of the Residents’ Rights Program.
- Participate in required education programs to maintain current competencies
- Maintain BLS certification.
- Provide supervision to non-licensed staff who are providing direct resident care.
- Serve as resource and support to other nursing staff.
- Attend all meetings as assigned.
- Follow staffing guidelines and assist when staff absences occur.
- Comply with federal, state and local regulations within the assigned unit.
- Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing information on the performance of Nursing Assistants.
- Administer and document direct resident care, medications and treatments per physician orders and accurately record all care provided.
- Promptly report changes in residents’ conditions to the physician, Director of Nursing and responsible party, and take follow-up action as necessary.
- Follow admission, discharge and transfer procedures.
- Listen to resident, family, or physician concerns and initiate corrective action and/or report concerns to Nursing Supervisor.
- Administer and handle pharmaceuticals within regulation and law.
- Supervise the safe use of devices that support resident activities.
- Notify physician, when necessary, of changes in residents’ conditions, including, but not limited to weight, abnormal laboratory/X-Ray results and any other unusual observations.
- Communicate effectively with residents, other nursing staff, physicians, families, consultant personnel, community agencies and ancillary service providers.
- Maintain a professional and caring demeanor.
- Practice Infection Prevention procedures as regulation requires.
- Follow Residents’ Rights policies.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Director of Nursing.
