Job Summary
The Surgical Technologist Student serves as the secondary scrub in the surgical suite under the direct supervision of the Certified Surgical Technologist. Surgical Technologist Students prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and ensuring all essential instrumentation and sterile supplies are prepared for surgical procedures while completing an online surgical tech program.
Job Responsibilities
- Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures through compliance with applicable policies procedures, surgical protocols and principles of asepsis.
- Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile drapes and sterile solutions as well as appropriate sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
- Hand required/requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery while maintaining a sterile field.
- Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
- Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor/track instrument counts throughout procedures.
- Remain current and competent in knowledge and skills necessary to meet the responsibility of the position and take initiative to inquire and explore new surgical procedures and subjects relating to the surgical patient and operating room environment.
- Function as a superuser of selected medical equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: High School diploma or equivalent and current, active enrollment in an accredited surgical technologist program
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: Two (2) years in a healthcare setting
License/Certification Requirements
- Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
