Role Summary
This role will serve as the Rivian subject matter expert for industrial hygiene and chemical safety. The focus of this role will be in our manufacturing hub in Normal Illinois, but could support industrial hygiene services for other business units in the enterprise. This person will develop and implement air/noise sampling strategies, create exposure control plans, and ensure compliance with occupational exposure limits. This role will contribute to general safety initiatives and foster a strong safety culture through cross-functional collaboration. Requires CIH certification and expertise in manufacturing environments.

Salary Range for Normal, IL based applicants: $140,600 - $175,800 annually (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Responsibilities
- Serve as the industrial hygiene and chemical safety subject matter expert for Rivian.
- Conduct qualitative and quantitative exposure analysis of Rivian processes.
- Develop exposure control plans to reduce or limit employee exposure below applicable occupational exposure limits.
- Support ventilation and exposure control design for Rivian manufacturing processes.
- Manage and complete Industrial Hygiene Risk Assessments (IHRAs) for processes that have the potential for employee exposure.
- Serve as subject matter expert (SME) and program owner of the following Rivian programs/processes :
- Respiratory Protection
- Industrial Hygiene
- Laser and Radiation Safety
- Process Safety Management
- Hearing Conservation Program
- HAZCOM and Chemical Management
- HAZWOPER
- Spill Response
- Maintain Rivian’s Process Safety Management (PSM) program, and drive compliance for Rivian covered processes.
- Develop safety culture and awareness around Rivian chemical safety.
- Support general safety including safety committees, building safety culture, OSHA compliance audits, inspections, factory risk assessment, and other objectives that help drive safety in manufacturing.
- Other responsibilities as required.
Required
- Minimum 5 years of focused experience supporting industrial hygiene in heavy manufacturing.
- Current Certified Industrial Hygienist.
- Proficient knowledge and understanding of analytical methods and exposure potential of manufacturing processes.
- Demonstrated experience developing exposure control methods such as ventilation and respiratory protection.
- Demonstrated proficiency in NIOSH, ACGIH, and OSHA analytical methods, occupational exposure limits, and regulations.
- Active Laser Safety Officer certification, or willing to obtain certification once hired.
- Master’s degree in public health, occupational health, or related field
- Recognized professional certification (CSP, CHST)
- Experience in Battery/EV Manufacturing
- Laser Safety Officer (LSO) certification
- Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) certification
- Experience supporting PSM covered processes.
