Ready To Serve (RTS) Production Supervisor
The Production Supervisor plays a key role in overseeing the daily operations of the Riviana Memphis food manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring that production goals are met while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, efficiency, and employee morale. The supervisor will lead a team of production workers, manage resources, and coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth production processes. Responsible for ensuring that State and Federal guidelines are followed on the production floor and throughout the retort operation, helping drive production activities for accurate product formulations, processing methods and protocol for quality and food safety.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Production Management
- Supervise daily production operations to meet schedules, quality standards, and safety protocols
- Monitor and optimize the use of resources, minimizing waste and improving efficiency
- Ensure proper setup, operation, and maintenance of production equipment
2. Team Leadership & Staff Supervision
- Lead, train, and motivate a team of production workers to ensure optimal performance
- Provide regular feedback and conduct performance evaluations
- Manage employee relations, resolve conflicts, and maintain a positive work environment
3. Safety and Compliance
- Enforce adherence to food safety standards, sanitation guidelines, and workplace safety protocols
- Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for production staff
- Investigate and report any safety incidents or violations
4. Quality Control
- Ensure products meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements
- Oversee quality checks and implement corrective actions for any non-conformance
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to resolve quality issues and improve processes
5. Inventory and Supply Chain Management
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the warehouse to prevent production delays
- Ensure timely and efficient handling of materials to meet production goals
- Minimize material wastage and optimize resource use during production
6. Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate production records, including logs, reports, and quality control data
- Report production performance and any operational issues to management
- Ensure compliance with documentation requirements for audits and inspections
7. Continuous Improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements to boost productivity and reduce costs
- Analyze production data to uncover inefficiencies and areas for improvement
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement among production staff
Education
- College degree preferred – BS Food Science, Engineering or related work experience
Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a supervisory role in a food manufacturing environment
- Experience with food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP, GMP, FDA, USDA)
- Retort experience in a food environment is a plus
- Technical background with experience in food processing preferred
Knowledge/Skills/Ability
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- In-depth knowledge of food manufacturing processes, GMPs, equipment, and safety protocols
- Proficient in production resource management
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of quality control and food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, SQF)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around the facility for long periods
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs
- Ability to work in hot, cold, and noisy environments
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, hairnets, and safety footwear
Working conditions
- Primarily works on the production floor in a food manufacturing facility
- Required to work in shifts, including weekends, and holidays, depending on production schedules
- Overtime may be required during peak production times
