Compensation:  Pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to job-specific requirements, individual experience, internal pay equity, and organizational needs/budget considerations, all in alignment with our RML's compensation philosophy. Additionally, you may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program based on both individual and organizational performance.

The Restorative Care Technician reports dually to both Nursing Services and to the Rehabilitation Services Departments.  The technician functions under the immediate supervision of the nurse manager and the rehabilitation therapists or the Manager of Rehabilitation Services. The Restorative Care Technician is responsible for providing nursing restorative care to patients; assisting therapists in providing care to patients; maintaining supplies and equipment; transporting patients for therapy; and general clerical and documentation tasks.  The technician provides age and developmentally appropriate care to adult and geriatric patients.--> 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Exemplifies the RML REACH (Service Excellence) culture by demonstrating respect, excellence, appreciation, concern and honor in all interactions with patients, families and co-workers, and as identified in departmental and hospital wide behavioral expectations.  Demonstrates a professional appearance and demeanor, and actively supports the department’s customer satisfaction goals.
2. Directly assists therapists in providing general rehabilitation services to patients, including activities requiring additional physical support.
3. Provides supportive activities not requiring licensure, as directed by the nurse manager. These activities may include, but are not limited to: 
   • assist with patient sitting schedules.
   • assist with patient ambulation or other mobility measures.
   • provide active or passive range of motion as ordered.
   • assist patient to apply and remove splints as directed.
   • assist patient with activities of daily living (ADL).
   • reinforce established therapies, exercises, or directions with patient and family.
   • reinforce swallowing exercises or observe patient eating, as ordered.
   • document the care provided.
4. Is knowledgeable of the patient’s rehab therapy and activity plans, and is able to describe their role in participating in the plan to the patient and family.
5. Escorts patients to therapy, obtains wheelchairs, carts, cardiac chairs and walkers and assists in transferring patients.
6. Assists in the record keeping and documentation of the use of supplies and the issuing of equipment i.e. wheelchairs, adaptive call lights, and pocket talkers, etc.
7. Completes safety checks on commodes, tub/ shower chairs, and wheelchairs bimonthly and assists with record keeping of the safety checks
8. Completes safety temperature checks for hot pack and cold pack hydrocollators.  Cleans and maintains equipment.
9. Assists with the inventory of adaptive equipment, positioning devices and wound care supplies.
10. Observes patients during treatment and takes vital signs, reports any significant change in the patient’s condition and observes patient’s ability to continue treatment as directed by the nurse manager or therapist.
11. Assists with clerical duties of filing and photocopying at the direction of the therapist or nurse manager.
12. Provides set-up of specialized equipment for physical therapy wound care treatments.
13. Provides service in accordance with the policies and procedures of RML Specialty Hospital.
14. Actively participates in staff meetings and continuing education activities.  Participates on committees or task forces and attends meetings as may be assigned.  Meets all annual and ongoing employee requirements (TB Testing,  Annual Review, Annual Clinical Validation, and performance evaluation, etc.) by demonstrating completion prior to due date.
15. Responsible for supporting a safe work environment for self and others, by reporting unsafe conditions, and by using appropriate safe work practices such as proper body mechanics and applicable safety devices (patient lift and transfer equipment, PPE, etc.)
16. Participates in department performance improvement activities.  Notes opportunities to improve patient safety or department operations and brings to the attention of the department manager.  Implements all applicable components of patient safety goals.-->
