About the Role
The Structural Engineer leads the engineering initiatives within the Prefabrication Division, focusing on the development and optimization of a scalable “buildings as a product” system. This role encompasses the design, testing, and refinement of structural solutions that enhance manufacturing efficiency and adaptability in field assembly. The Structural Engineer is crucial in engaging in a robust proof of concept and preparing the engineering framework for scalable growth, ensuring the products align with evolving demands and industry standards.
Responsibilities:
I. Phase 1 (0-12 months) – Engineering Development and Proof of Concept
Engineering and Design Development:
- Lead the engineering design of the kit-of-parts superstructure/skin, focusing on structural integrity, material efficiency, and assembly feasibility.
- Develop and test prototype components in collaboration with the entire prefab design and production team, ensuring seamless integration and performance in shop & field conditions.
Process Setup and Optimization:
- Establish engineering processes and guidelines for the production and assembly of kit-of-parts.
- Create detailed documentation and manuals to guide the shop fabrication and field assembly processes.
- Establish Revit standards for all structural documents.
Quality Control and Compliance:
- Implement and oversee quality control measures to meet all regulatory and internal standards.
- Ensure engineering designs and processes adhere to industry best practices and safety standards.
II. Phase 2 (2-5 years): Engineering Team Expansion and Process Maturation
Engineering Optimization:
- Continuously improve engineering processes and component designs for increased efficiency and reduced cost. Exploration of varying material & building types will be a key part of this phase.
- Implement new technologies, materials, and methods to enhance the scalability & cost-efficiency of the structural components.
Team Building and Leadership:
- Recruit and train additional engineering talent as the demand for the product increases.
- Lead a growing team of engineers, fostering a collaborative environment and ensuring alignment with division goals.
Project Management and Scalability:
- Manage multiple projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Prepare the engineering team and processes for scaling up production and geographic expansion.
III. Phase 3 (5 years): Regional Expansion and Innovation Leadership
Geographic Expansion:
· Lead engineering efforts to support the establishment of new fabrication facilities and entry into new markets.
· Standardize engineering practices across multiple locations to ensure consistency and quality.
Strategic Engineering Leadership:
· Drive strategic initiatives to position the engineering team as a key player in product innovation and market competitiveness.
· Represent the company in industry forums, contributing to thought leadership in prefabricated construction engineering.
Mentorship and Innovation:
· Mentor new engineers and develop a leadership pipeline within the engineering team.
· Innovate and lead R&D projects to explore new materials and engineering methods that can further advance the prefabrication model.
