About this role
The Steel Shop Fabrication Lead is the driving force behind our steel fabrication operations. This role involves leading and supervising a team of skilled tradespeople to ensure that steel fabrication, assembly, and installation tasks are executed with precision, efficiency, and safety. You will be hands-on in the shop, setting schedules, overseeing quality control, and collaborating with both internal teams and external partners to keep projects moving smoothly.
Primary Responsibilities
- Task Coordination: Develop daily work schedules and assign tasks to ensure all steel fabrication projects progress on time and meet quality standards.
- Quality Oversight: Monitor production processes and enforce quality control measures to ensure that all steel work adheres to established specifications and standards.
- Team Leadership: Mentor, train, and support the shop team; provide regular feedback and performance assessments to drive continuous improvement.
- Safety Compliance: Champion a safe work environment by enforcing shop safety protocols, identifying potential hazards, and implementing corrective actions promptly.
- Collaboration: Work in close coordination with subcontractors, vendors, and project managers to optimize workflows and resolve operational issues efficiently.
- Process Improvement: Encourage innovation by adopting new technologies and best practices that enhance productivity and overall shop performance.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required; additional technical training or certification in welding, metal fabrication, or related fields is preferred.
- Experience: At least 5 years of hands-on experience in a steel fabrication environment or a similar industrial setting.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong familiarity with reading blueprints, operating fabrication machinery, and using shop management software (e.g., ERP systems or fabrication tracking tools).
- Practical Skills: Demonstrated expertise in metal cutting, welding, assembly, and quality control within a busy production environment.
