Description
The Director of Nursing manages the healthcare of individuals receiving services from DDS; provides supervision to licensed staff and consultation to certified staff; serves as an advocate; provides MAP oversight and performs ongoing training and support to licensed
and certified staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Provide clinical consultation regarding complex healthcare issues or newly diagnosed
conditions that require an in-depth healthcare management plan.
• Review Physician Orders, including treatments, protocols, and medications with the
Residential Manager and/or Director.
• Review clinical records on a regular basis to ensure adequate services and support are
provided, referrals are obtained as needed, health screenings and diagnostic tests are
done, as needed.
• Periodically review the health status of individuals by observing and interviewing
individuals, examining documents and making recommendations.
• Follow hospital admissions and act as a liaison between RTR and DDS for all medical
information.
• Assures that appropriate resources are available, staff are trained to provide follow-up
care after an emergency or health episode, e.g. VNA services, hospice, etc.
• Assist RTR Management with admission and discharge planning.
• Review DDS’ Health Screen Recommendations with the Managers and/or Directors to
provide all individuals with healthcare services in accordance with DDS regulations.
• Attend DDS meetings and/or other required meetings concerning healthcare planning.
• Complete the Department of Public Health’s approved “MAP Train the Trainer” program.
• Reviews MOR’s in assigned homes/programs at least quarterly.
• Visits assigned homes on a regular basis to determine compliance with MAP. Audits
programs using the MAP Technical Assistance Tool on a periodic basis.
• Attend family meetings concerning individual’s healthcare/medical issues.
• Provide as requested communication concerning medical issues to all ISP team
members. Establishes and maintains a strong communication link with managerial staff.
• Interviews LPN job applicants and makes hiring recommendations, as requested.
• Provide staff training as necessary. Provides clinical supervision for LPN staff.
• Participate in on-the-job training and provide coaching to new co-workers as directed.
• Adhere to agency safety standards.
• Perform additional duties, or substitute for others as required. Adhere to all RTR policies
and procedures.
• Develop and provide all services in accordance with RTR's philosophy and mission.
Qualifications
• Registered Nurse diploma or bachelor’s degree with two to three years related experience and/or training in a community health setting.
• Must hold a valid Registered Nurse license.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and the internet.
• Successful completion of all state and agency mandated training.
• Must be willing to authorize a Criminal History Background Check (CORI) and release of information concerning Disabled Persons Protection Commission (DPPC), Department of Developmental Services (DDS), and other agencies.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Must be fluent in English and have the ability to read and interpret documents such
as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate
effectively with individuals under supervision, employees of the organization, and
customers.
