We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Estimator in Ontario, New York. In this role, you will be responsible for generating precise cost estimates for residential and multifamily buildings as well as site infrastructure. This position requires a keen eye for detail, proficiency in managing budgets, and a comprehensive understanding of construction estimating.
Responsibilities
- Carry out accurate quantity takeoffs and critically review architectural, structural, and civil plans.
- Develop and manage project budgets, ensuring they are updated throughout the job lifecycle.
- Create scopes of work and obtain bids from subcontractors and suppliers, evaluating them for accuracy, scope completeness, and pricing.
- Maintain and update a subcontractor/vendor database for efficient bid management.
- Issue work orders for in-house teams and subcontractors, and track their progress.
- Generate purchase orders in accordance with budgeted costs, and manage them effectively.
- Collaborate with engineers and site contractors to estimate land development work, including utilities, grading, roadwork, and stormwater.
- Consider permitting, utility tap fees, and municipal costs in estimates where necessary.
- Assist with the evaluation and pricing of scope changes during construction, supporting project managers with budget revisions and cost updates.
- Track cost history across projects and contribute to the development of pricing models and internal standards.
- Use software like Buildertrend for estimate entry, job cost tracking, and budget reporting, ensuring data accuracy and seamless transition between estimating and project management/accounting.
- Proficiency in billing procedures and systems
- Experience with data entry tasks and software
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Familiarity with QuickBooks software
- Proven experience in construction estimating
- Ability to carry out benchmarking processes
- Experience in managing budgets effectively
- Knowledge of creating and managing work orders.
