Chief Financial Officer

The Chief Financial Officer will be responsible for managing the financial strategy and operations of a multi-service private non-profit 501(c)(3) human services organization. The CFO ensures the organization’s financial health, compliance, and sustainability to support its mission of delivering critical human services.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises assigned staff, evaluates employee performance, and makes recommendations for employment actions as necessary.
  • Monitors daily operations, facilitates staff meetings, conducts staff training/coaching opportunities, and manages administrative tasks.
  • Delivers and documents supervision, consultation, and support to assigned staff following agency policies and procedures.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies to support organizational goals.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership team.
  • Lead financial planning, analysis, forecasting, and reporting activities.
  • Oversee the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets.
  • Monitor budget performance and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
  • Ensure resources are allocated effectively to support programmatic priorities.
  • Manage day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable.
  • Prepare and present accurate, timely financial reports to the CEO, Board, and funders.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS, and other applicable financial regulations.
  • Oversee financial management of grants, contracts, and donor-restricted funds.
  • Work with program leadership to ensure proper allocation and reporting of grant funds.
  • Support development efforts by providing financial data for proposals and reports.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including tax filings and audits.
  • Establish internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.
  • Oversee insurance policies and manage organizational risk assessments.
  • Lead and mentor finance team members to achieve professional growth and excellence.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit or human services organization.
  • Strong knowledge of non-profit accounting, including fund accounting and compliance with OMB Uniform Guidance.
