Job Overview: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Clerk/Accountant/Bookkeeper at our busy automotive dealership. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining financial records, processing transactions, managing accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations specific to the automotive industry. The ideal candidate will have strong numerical and organizational skills, with the ability to handle a variety of accounting tasks in a fast-paced dealership environment. Training is provided for those who wish to develop or expand their knowledge in automotive accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record and manage financial transactions related to vehicle sales, service, parts, and financing
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and general ledgers for the dealership
- Process invoices, payments, and payroll
- Prepare and maintain financial reports (balance sheets, profit & loss statements, etc.)
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable, ensuring accounts are manageable and up-to-date
- Assist with inventory accounting, including vehicle and parts inventory
- Handle dealership-specific accounting needs, such as sales tax reporting and manufacturer rebates
- Assist in the preparation of tax returns and other financial documents specific to automotive industry regulations
- Ensure compliance with dealership accounting policies, procedures, and industry standards
- Assist with budgeting and financial forecasting
- Provide administrative support to the finance department as needed
- Respond to internal and external financial inquiries from customers, vendors, and management
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper, accountant, or similar role; experience in an automotive dealership is a plus
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial management specific to the automotive industry
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or similar); dealership management systems (DMS) experience is a plus;
- Title experience is a plus
- Being or willing to become a Notary
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in accounting or related field preferred
- Knowledge of tax preparation, automotive sales, and dealership accounting practices is a plus
- Previous experience in payroll management is a plus
- Willingness to learn and grow within the automotive accounting field; training opportunities provided
