SUMMARY:
Under minimal supervision this position is responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining systems and equipment associated with an electric generating facility. Candidate must successfully pass the appropriate EEI test.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of the plant’s DCS and balance of plant PLC systems.
- Maintain and calibrate various instrumentation installed throughout the facility.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on the plant’s environmental CEMS systems.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting on pneumatic and motor-operated valves used at the plant.
- Performs required maintenance functions in accord with defined schedules in the generating facility within the scope of the individually demonstrated skills and abilities.
- Works with others to provide required support.
- Directs the work of others.
- Assures environmental compliance and maintains a clean and safe workspace.
- Performs other related or lesser-skilled work as required.
EDUCATION:
- High School diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE:
- Prior coal power plant experience would be beneficial.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of and ability to perform work on ABB Infi-90 DCS and Allen-Bradley PLC systems.
- Ability to determine root cause of events and perform corrective actions to prevent a recurrence.
- Ability to operate and interpret readings from testing equipment used for calibrating instrumentation.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals.
- Use hand and power tools and equipment.
- Communicate conditions of plant system and equipment status to others.
- Apply knowledge of steam power plant operations and basic power plant principles to daily decision-making and work tasks.
- Operate computers and printers.
- Works without close supervision while carrying out routine duties.
- Meet physical requirements of the job such as perform tasks while standing, walking, climbing and squatting. Work with extended reach above head and in front of body and lift 50 pounds and carry while walking distances of up to 10 feet.
- Ability to operate Company vehicles and equipment and maintain operating licenses and certifications.
- Work will require cross training.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Power plant environment. Work environment includes working out of doors, working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating unit work locations. Work in all temperatures and climate conditions. Some temperatures can be extreme.
- Requires operation of a motor vehicle, valid Driver’s License required.
- Work in and around rotating equipment, high voltage electrical equipment, high noise areas and elevations up to 100 feet.
- Work in confined spaces, some requiring the use of respirators and other protective equipment.
- Performance of duties requires working rotating shifts and response to calls 24 hours/day, seven days/week.
- Emergency situations will require the use of respirator and climbing of stairs to reach safety shelters.
- Established facial hair in the sealing area of a respirator is not permitted.
- Contact lenses are not permitted except for specific medical reasons.
- OSHA approved footwear is required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.60 - $48.31 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
