Job Description
Rochelle McCullough, LLP, is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Assistant or Paralegal for its Indianapolis office to support a chapter 7 bankruptcy panel trustee in administering cases effectively and efficiently. The position will also support attorneys in both Indiana and Texas in their commercial litigation, restructuring, and creditor and debtor rights practices. The ideal candidate will have experience in bankruptcy law or a related legal field.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the administration of Chapter 7 bankruptcy cases from inception to closure.
- Prepare and review Trustee deposits, withdrawals and other banking reports as required by the United States Trustee’s Office.
- Review, analyze, and organize bankruptcy schedules, statements, and supporting documentation.
- Conduct initial case review and identify potential non-exempt assets, preferential payments, or fraudulent transfers.
- Draft and file pleadings, and reports, including Trustee’s Reports, Final Reports, and other documents required under the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and Rules and the United States Trustee’s office for Region 10.
- Calendar, monitor and meet deadlines for filings, hearings, and other case-related matters.
- Research bankruptcy statutes, case law, and trustee best practices as needed.
- Assist in preparing legal briefs, pleadings, motions, and discovery.
- Prepare trial exhibits, witness lists, and other trial-related materials, coordinate with witnesses and experts for trial appearances.
- Perform general administrative duties, such as drafting correspondence, answering phones, and managing office tasks.
Qualifications
- Experience/Education: Our ideal candidate would have at least two years of experience in bankruptcy law, creditor or debtor’s rights, or a related legal field, but we are open to considering less experienced excellent candidates with a drive to learn and grow into the role. Familiarity with chapter 7 bankruptcy is highly preferred. A paralegal certificate is not required but is a plus.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficient in bankruptcy case management software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and legal research platforms.
- Comfort with electronic filing (ECF) and navigating PACER.
- Other Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage deadlines effectively.
- Analytical mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
