What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Technician position at Rochester Community and Technical College?
This position exists to reconcile the all checking account bank statements, to process all cost allocation for various expenses as needed, to process all invoice payments for federal, state and local accounts, to monitor purchasing cards and enter expenses into cost allocations, and enter payroll deduction requests.
Responsibilities and Results
- Process payments for all approved invoices for RCTC. Verify all appropriations items have been received, Process p-card cost allocation to ensure timely payments to vendors and accurate accounting for cost centers
- Reconcile all checking monthly bank statement to ensure Minnesota State Cash agrees with the Bank Cash monthly
- Enter cost allocation for various processes and ensure accurate and timely posting of charges
- Review and enter SEMA4 employee expense reports information so employee reimbursement is processed timely and posted to correct cost centers to ensure accurate accounting of cost centers.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems. Technical skills to include computer utilization and excel spreadsheets.
- Knowledge of the Minnesota Accounting and Procurement System (MAPS), or other private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, and assist with preparation and maintenance of spending plans, financial status reports and budget requests.
- Working Knowledge of electronic spreadsheets and word processing software.
- Mathematics skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts
- Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.
- Ability to read and write a variety of materials in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Minnesota State accounting system to prepare the bank reconciliation and the budget reconciliation.
- Experience with grant accounting reconciliation.
- Experience working in Higher Education
- Two-year degree in accounting or accounting-related field.
