What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Technician position at Rochester Public Schools?
- Analysis and processing of accounts payable claims and employee travel expense reimbursements including verification of accuracy and validity of claims, documentation of receipt of materials in good condition, securing proper site/department approvals, monitoring vendor information including W-9 information, and scheduling for payment. Process vendor checks and compile payment voucher documentation to ensure completely accurate vendor and employee payments.
- Reconcile bank deposits to the District's operating account. Post entries into the finance system to reflect the appropriate revenue code and dollar amount of each deposit. Follow-up with staff across the District to provide supporting documentation for banking transactions. Generate invoices for accounts receivable and follow-up on unpaid invoices.
- Manage the District's central mailroom. Make sure all regular and bulk mail accounts are replenished. Prepare external mail as necessary for daily or special pickups.
- Support and complete other accounting tasks as assigned.
- Associate's Degree in Accounting or at least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in a computerized accounting environment
- Computer skills including experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Good math, accurate record keeping, organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with frequent interruptions
- Light physical requirements including lifting and movement of up to 20 pounds occasionally
- Bending, reaching, and simultaneous use of both hands are needed for typing
- Majority of the time will be spent in a seated position
- Excellent sensory skills (sight, hearing, and speech)
