This position is responsible for assisting the Vice President of Human Resources in carrying out the responsibilities of the Human Resources Department. This position manages Human Resources administrative functions in talent acquisition, employee relations, employee benefits, and retirement programs, ensuring staff and faculty are well informed. This position oversees the new hire orientation and onboarding processes and manages HR transactions in conjunction with the service center.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience working with various laws relating to human resources management, including but not limited to employment law, Fair Labor Standards Act, Public Employees Labor Relations Act, Family Medical Leave Act, and the American with Disabilities Act.
- Strong interpersonal/human relations skills.
- Excellent written communication skills in using correct grammar, spelling and punctuation to write and edit reports, letters, note taking, and other documents.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Analytical and problem-solving ability sufficient to evaluate complex information, research answers to problems and/or concerns and make decisions and/or recommendations within acceptable timeframes.
- Excellent computer skills including the use of Microsoft products (Word, Excel, Power BI).
- Commitment to diversity as well as a demonstrated ability to work successfully with persons of diverse backgrounds including sensitivity to their needs and concerns.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- S/PHR and/or SHRM S/CP credentials.
- Experience with benefits and retirement programs.
- Experience with the State of Minnesota employment law, personnel rules, and administrative processes.
- Experience in Human Resource information systems.
- Professional experience handling confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
- Leadership experience sufficient to provide lead work, direction, and coaching to employees and supervisors on a variety of Human Resources matters.
- Experience working in a union environment and interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
