Job Responsibilities

This position requires a dynamic leader with excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, a keen understanding of college student development, knowledge of curricular approaches to residential education, experience working with theme communities, and strong administrative, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

The Assistant Director for the Center for Residence Life will :

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate 3-4 Masters level professionals
  • Manage staff resources to provide outreach, resource referral, and follow-up on a variety of student issues, including mental health, by working closely with the Student Behavior Consultation Team, Public Safety, Housing Operations, Student Conduct, and other campus partners, as well as participate in a year-round on-call duty rotation for the entire residential population
  • Interpret and execute University, Division, and Center policies and procedures, including serving as a Student Conduct hearing officer, Title IX hearing officer, and Residence Life representative in formal student conduct hearings
  • Provide oversight to staff with regards to residential education, including oversight of fiscal resources in support of programmatic efforts
  • Participate on Divisional and University Committees as assigned and participate in ongoing professional development, particularly in competency areas of technology, assessment, administrative leadership, and those identified by the employee and supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Education

Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Personnel or related field required

Experience :

The successful candidate will have :

  • 4-6 years of experience working with complex organizational systems and administrative units.
  • Proven ability to provide leadership and supervision in a dynamic environment.
  • Professional and administrative experience in higher education is preferred
  • Skills :

    The successful candidate will :

  • Possess experience with staff supervision, managing multiple priorities, and the development of communities where all are welcome.
  • Engage in ongoing learning about identities, perspectives, and cultures.
  • Have openness to learning about Deaf culture and American Sign Language.
  • Have experience serving as a hearing officer for student conduct, managing confidential and private information, and using technology to advance operational practice are all skills associated with this role and represent the range of skills which will be sought in the ideal candidate.

    Job Summary

    The Assistant Director for the Center for Residence Life reports to one of the Associate Directors in the Center for Residence Life and helps provide operational leadership to the residential community. In addition, the individual in this position supports the university's objectives by developing engaging, inclusive, and safe communities, developmental co-curricular experiences, and collaboration with campus partners.
