Job Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities
Providing for public safety and security by maintaining order / policing, responding to emergencies, protecting people and property, enforcing RIT policies, motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promoting positive community relations.
- Responds to service related requests promptly including quality of life complaints; utility interruptions; suspicious persons; money escorts (protecting employees transporting money on campus); special attention checks in high risk areas; motorist assists; residential and office lockouts; found property; emergency notifications; noise complaints; and other duties dictated by community reports.
- Acts as first responder and preliminary investigator to campus incidents to assess, mitigate, investigate, gather evidence and document the occurrence. Examples such as :

The Public Safety Department is a 24 / 7 operation, 365 days / year.
There are 4 different patrol shifts and the person hired will most likely be assigned to the afternoon or overnight shift, which includes differential pay. Premium pay is given for holidays and other days as determined by the Public Safety Department. Some overtime is required to maintain appropriate staffing levels and to staff special events throughout the year.
Required to be available for overtime, call ins and possible shift changes on short notice and rotating days off to maintain appropriate staffing levels and for special events throughout the year.

Job Summary
The RIT Public Safety Department is a 24 / 7 operation, 365 days / year. This position is responsible for serving and protecting at any given time a community covering the entire 1,300-acre university campus with approximately 19,000 Students and 4,000 Faculty and Staff.
