The specialist in applied linguistics designs, prepares, and teaches English for Academic Purposes courses (English as an Additional Language), in a variety of linguistic skill areas, at all proficiency levels. The specialist creates new course materials and assists in the coordination of instruction by participating in regular planning, assessment and coordination meetings. The specialist assists in providing a socially engaging cross-cultural environment by leading and participating in cultural events with students.
The position requires a creative, collaborative individual who is deeply committed to creating an engaging and rich learning environment for a variety of students from around the world.

RITs English Language Center offers a comprehensive, intensive academic program that provides English language instruction in a cross-cultural learning environment to prepare international students for success in graduate and undergraduate study. The English Language Center is within the Division of Student Affairs, which provides programs that enhance development and promote a send of community on campus for all.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Education
Masters degree (MA, MS or MS.Ed.) in TESL or Applied Linguistics; or Masters degree in related field with documented for-credit coursework in six areas: linguistics, culture and society, education theory, second-language pedagogy, second-language assessment, and a language teaching practicum.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years teaching college-level international students at a variety of levels of English language proficiency and in a variety of courses.

The Specialist in Applied Linguistics will:
- Teach 16-20 contact hours at any proficiency level and in any curricular area, including planning and creating new materials and updating established program materials.
- Collaborate with peers to coordinate instruction and to provide an engaging program of cultural activities.
- Participate in collective coordination, evaluation and revision of teaching materials and assessments for the entire ELC curriculum.
- Maintain active knowledge of the field in order to provide creative, innovative and engaging instruction.
- Assist in mentoring part-time instructors, interns and student assistants as needed.

- University-level teaching skills, demonstrating understanding of the linguistic requirements of undergraduate and graduate assignments across the university
- Knowledge of current theory and practice in linguistic analysis, language pedagogy and language assessment
- Ability to communicate effectively, engagingly, accessibly and empathetically in a cross-cultural setting, in particular with students who are developing English language skills
- Ability to design and revise work products collaboratively and in a team setting, building and maintaining effective working relationships based on respect, empathy and honesty with diverse groups and individuals
- Experience with course design for both in-person and online instruction
- Experience working in a team environment
- Teaching or living experience outside of the USA
