Detailed Job Description
The School of Chemistry and Materials Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for a temporary visiting lecturer position to begin in August 2025. This is a one-year temporary position with the possibility of continuation for up to three academic years.
Candidates should possess the education, skills, and experience to: teach (1) General Chemistry Labs, (2) Physical Chemistry Labs, and (3) Quantitative Analysis Labs. The School of Chemistry and Materials Science (SCMS) typically operates between 28-32 sections of general chemistry. The successful candidate should be able to engage students through personalized pedagogy to be active participants in their learning, help the students build confidence in their intellectual abilities, and develop alternate strategies to help students grasp the material.
The position includes four to five chemistry laboratories per semester including, General Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Analytical Chemistry. The successful candidate will be an active member of the Chemistry program, which includes being available for student help and developing student support programs such as supplemental instruction.

The College of Science currently has strategic research areas, including efforts to attract and retain high-quality, diverse faculty, students, and staff; to ensure an inclusive campus culture and a global mindset; to advance scholarship; to capitalize on key partnerships and current strengths to increase the community, regional, and global impact of COS; and to incentivize, support, recognize, and reward scholarly engagement activities by students, faculty, and staff. We plan to hire faculty who can contribute to some or all of these strategic priorities.
The School of Chemistry & Materials Science offers undergraduate degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry, Master's degrees in Chemistry and Materials Science & Engineering, and several BS/MS program options. The school currently has 23 faculty members and supports approximately 150 BS Biochemistry and Chemistry majors, 20 MS students in Chemistry and Materials Science & Engineering, and many BS/MS students. - At least one semester teaching experience at the university level
- Proven competency in one or more of the following areas: General Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry
- PhD in Chemistry, or a closely related field
