SUMMARY
Review clinical documentation and diagnostic results to extract data and apply appropriate ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance. Under the direction of the System Director of Revenue Cycle, accurately codes conditions and procedures as documented in the ICD-10-CM Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting and or CPT Assistant. Demonstrates knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and applies to assigned charts in order to optimize reimbursement and/or resolve regulatory edits.
STATUS: Full Time - 37.50 hours a week

ATTRIBUTES
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of two year coding experience required
Certification of coding will be required at hire which includes RHIA, RHIT, CCS-H, CCS, CPC, CPC, CMC
RESPONSIBILITIES
50% • Data entry of charges in a timely and accurate fashion. Perform random audits on charts. Review for accuracy on all charges, make corrections based on visit documentation when necessary. Stays up to date on 3rd party payer rules and integrates those rules into daily work. Stays up to date on coding rules and CPT/ICD/HCPCS Codes. Assist the department manager with collecting data for trends to help develop training plans for offices and providers. Assist billing office in addressing billing concerns from patients as necessary. Review billing and coding work queues in Emdeon. Participates in all continuing education. Covers for other positions as needed and assigned during vacation periods. Transmits charges in a timely manner and notifies management of any issues in a timely manner. Identifies cases requiring physician clarification on conflicting or ambiguous documentation issues that affect coding. Queries physician as needed.
20% Communication: Works with fellow team members and other departments within the SLHS as needed. Supports the goals, objectives and philosophies of the SLHS.
20% • Compliance: Complies with al legal requirements regarding coding procedures and practices. Stays up to date with coding regulatory requirements. Supports and maintains confidentiality and security issues. Demonstrates up-to-ate knowledge of record requirements; Regulatory, Hospital and Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
10% • Other duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: S - Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
PAY RANGE: $21.20 - $28.65
