SUMMARY

The Store Manager is responsible for overseeing the fast-paced day-to-day operations of our dynamic $9M museum store in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This person drives sales and profitability goals by leading the store team, enhancing customer satisfaction, understanding, anticipating, and proactively acting on our business needs, and communicating and collaborating with the wider museum.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales & Visual Merchandising

  • Meet sales goals by training, motivating, inspiring, and coaching the team.
  • Oversee all day-to-day sales and drive the team to exceed sales goals.
  • Ensure high levels of customers satisfaction through Fans First service.
  • Maintain outstanding store condition and visual merchandising standards including the stocking of appropriate sizes, styles, and inventory levels.
  • Propose and execute innovative ideas to increase store sales.
  • Plan and oversee in-store promotional events and displays.
  • Communicate openly and regularly with the merchandising and inventory team about buying trends and customer needs.
  • Make recommendations and execute on product discounts, promos, and mark downs based on appropriate reporting.
  • Develop business strategies to raise our customers’ pool, expand store traffic and optimize profitability.

Leadership

  • Demonstrate and encourage a strong work ethic, outstanding customer service, critical and innovative thinking, and problem solving.
  • Interview, hire, and train store employees in partnership with the Human Resources team.
  • Conduct personnel performance appraisals to assess training needs and build career paths.
  • Provide direction and guidance to the store staff by mentoring, cross training, and effective delegation.
  • Understand and clearly communicate the store and museum priorities for the day, week, month, and year.
  • Utilize the skills of the team by effectively delegating their time based on low/high attendance, store demands, and local events.
  • Listen, understand, and communicate the needs of the team and the business to make recommendations to the leadership team for best practices to ensure voices are heard and Rock Hall initiatives are communicated clearly and with context.

Operations

  • Assist in the preparation of and control the store’s budget aiming for minimum expenditure and efficiency.
  • Complete store administration including overseeing opening and closing of the store, proper bookkeeping, and ensure compliance with all Rock Hall policies and procedures.
  • Organize all store operations and allocate responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
  • Schedule staff according to business and institutional needs and forecasted attendance.
  • Partner with other departments in the museum to ensure appropriate staff coverage and merchandise selection for key events and rentals.
  • Monitor inventory levels to ensure appropriate on-hands for sell through and to maintain a low shrink.
  • Ensure a safe and clean environment for staff and customers.
  • Secure merchandise by implementing security systems and measures as needed.
  • Approve timecards and time off requests for all direct reports.
  • Oversee the receiving and preparation of incoming merchandise shipments.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven successful experience as a retail Store Manager in a high-volume location.
  • Accomplished in the development of staff into leadership roles.
  • Powerful leadership skills and business orientation
  • Strong sense of self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer management skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Excellent knowledge of retail management software-Shopify and or Shopventory preferred.
  • BS degree in Business Administration or relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at time.
  • Knowledge of and passion for rock & roll history and music.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Environmental Parameters: Ability to work in a window-less office. Ability to work in confined areas (Store stock room). Ability to work in crowds of people. Ability to work with loud house music. Ability to work independently for extended periods of time.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Strength: Ability to lift/move items weighing up to 50 lbs. (approximately)
    • Type: Ability to effectively express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word. Ability to hear accurately to monitor radios and interact with the public. Ability to judge distance and space relationships; identify and distinguish colors, numbers, and figures. Ability to perform tasks concurrently. Work involves walking or standing most of the time but may involve sitting for brief periods of time.

Equipment Used:

  • Computers, telephone, radios, calculator, cash register and other retail equipment.

Safety Hazards:

  • Minimal hazards. General office and retail working conditions.

  • Cognitive:
    • Analytical: Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
    • Communication: Ability to be conversant in Rock Hall rules and procedures. Ability to understand and carry out written or verbal instructions. Ability to answer inquiries from employees and visitors.
    • Administrative: Ability to complete forms. Ability to pay attention to detail and accurately distinguish data. Ability to organize and prioritize various schedules, data, and documents.

  • Manual:
    • Motor Coordination: Ability to make necessary movements in selecting, picking and depositing items.
    • Finger Dexterity: Ability to pick, pinch or otherwise work with fingers to operate above equipment. Ability to pick up a variety of items and place them on shelves; to move knobs, buttons, or switches.
    • Manual Dexterity: Ability to seize, hold, grasp, turn or otherwise work with hands. Ability to shake, sort, fold or stack items; to place and retrieve items.

Benefits and Compensation:

The annual salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience and certifications.
The Rock Hall offers a generous benefits package including 4 plan options for health insurance and other benefits such as dental, vision, and life insurance.
Other perks include employer paid parking, 403b retirement plan, and yearly paid time off including: 14 paid holidays, 15 vacation days, 12 sick days, 3 personal days, and 32 hours of paid volunteer time.
