What are the responsibilities and job description for the Children’s Ministry Director/Pastor position at Rock Family Church?
Thank you for your interest in our children’s ministry position. Please review the information below about our church and the qualities we seek in a potential candidate. If you feel like you’re up for challenge and a match for our church we would love to have you apply in the top right corner.
INSIDE ROCK FAMILY CHURCH
Rock is an independent Spirit-filled church that was founded in 2004 by Lead Pastors, Dean & Kim Hawk, who began the church after 23 years of doing youth and supportive ministry roles in the local church. Today RFC is a young and vibrant family of believers with an average age of 29. The culture of Rock is warm, inviting, and friendly with a high priority placed on children’s and youth ministry.
We are an externally motivated church to reach beyond our walls to impact people in tangible ways. Everything from sending out our ice cream truck with a team to distribute free ice cream treats on the weekends, assisting families in need, partnering with our local schools, and supporting community organizations who are making an impact.
We own a 72,000 SF building on nine acres of land in the heart of Colorado Springs and average 1300 people in person attendance between the two Sunday morning services with another 750 who participate online. Rock is board governed and is a partner church with ARC (Association of Related Churches) and a member of the Champions Network of churches. We operate on a cash basis and have never had any debt other than our building mortgage which is now paid off to make us a 100% debt free church.
LEAD PASTORS
Founding Pastors, Dean & Kim, are relational leaders with over 40 years of ministry experience who place a high value on team interaction and accountability. Having served as a Youth and Associate Pastor in the local church for 19 years and traveled for four years, Dean gets what it’s like to lead from both sides of the desk.
Kim was the original Children’s Pastor for the first 10 years of the church and now serves as the CFO and is a part of the Executive Team. Aside from Dean’s duties as Lead Pastor he is an adjunct professor at Charis Bible College in Woodland Park and leads the Colorado Springs network of pastors called THE MERGE. Dean also coaches pastors around the globe through his monthly Dean Hawk Leadership Podcast, and equips pastors by making all of his sermon series and materials available for free on deanhawk.com. Dean and Kim have been married since 1983 and have three adult children and four grandchildren.

UNIQUE TO RFC: What makes us different?
- Bold invitations for people to accept Jesus Christ in EVERY service.
- Creative, visual, and practical Bible teaching on how to do life as a follower of Christ on Monday through Friday.
- We excel at customer service. We are the warmest and friendliest place of business in Colorado Springs.
- Equip and empower the team members. Our motto is “Everyday ministry by everyday believers.”
- Kids and teenagers are empowered to serve and BE the church of today, not tomorrow.
- We esteem teenagers 13 and older as adults who are called to valiantly serve shoulder to shoulder with us.
- “We do ministry for children and teenagers with adult care provided.”
- We do church “family style.”
- Families partake in communion together.
- Parents are encouraged to baptize their son or daughter.
- Family events, movie nights, etc.
- We are intentional about maturing the believer from infancy to parenthood and making disciples of Christ.
- We strive to engage all members into a variety of small groups, specialty classes (parenting, marriage, FPU) or a discipleship growth track.
- Church is not only a place to receive but all members are challenged to find a place to serve and move the vision forward.
- We are politically neutral and choose NOT to engage in the political process other than encouraging our members to vote. We do not advocate for one political party over another and believe the Great Commission given to us by Jesus calls for us to reach Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and any and every one in between. We choose to use our influence for KINGDOM purposes rather than political ones.
- We passionately reach out to the hurting, the lost, and the unchurched of our city. We must continually think “OUTWARD” not inward.
- Church members are part of a team, not a club. Church life is 360 degrees where members receive and give. We believe the church is not here for us . . . we ARE the church, and we are here for the world.
- We love to be GENEROUS. When in doubt we always side towards GENEROUSITY.
- We are Kingdom focused and esteem other local churches as teammates. We pray for the success and favor upon a different church every Sunday in our services.
RFC STAFF CORE OBJECTIVES - DEFINES WHAT WE DO
- Make disciples – We grow people in their walk with Jesus to become reproducing followers of Christ.
- Connect people – We engage people in authentic relationships.
- Empower team members – We equip, empower, and release people to do the works of Jesus. Everyday ministry by everyday believers. Everyone reach one.
- Cultivate leaders – We lead, coach, train, model, delegate, and develop people to move up the ladder of leadership. We daily pray for God to add winners to our team.
- Walk in the supernatural – We rely upon the Holy Spirit’s power, wisdom, grace, and direction to accomplish the vision and to impact people’s lives.
RFC STAFF CORE VALUES – DEFINES HOW WE DO IT
We agree and commit to the following values in how we serve, work, and relate to each other:
- Lead With Integrity Live a consecrated life to Jesus Christ for others to model. Ultimately integrity is a victory you win for a value you hold when you could compromise it and take the easy way out.
- Serve With Humility Humbly serve our team members, their families, our church family, and our community. “For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
- People Are Priority Before programs, processes, and task, we always make time for people. Never become so focused on the project that we forget the people we are serving or serving with.
- Family First Marriage before ministry. Never allow ministry to be more important than your marriage and your kids.
- Make it Better “We’re just like bacon, we make everything better.” Function with excellence. Give the extra 5% to move it from good to great. “The difference between being mediocre and achieving excellence is you.” Stephen Richards
- Stay Hungry We peddle when others coast. We are not content with the status quo. “Healthy things grow. We strive to be a healthy organization not grow in attendance.”
- Own It The buck stops with me. No excuses. Our word is gold.
- Have Fun “If we’re not having fun doing what we do then maybe we have lost sight of why we’re doing it.”
RFC CHURCH CORE VALUES
- REACH – Intentionally connect with those beyond our church walls.
- BELONG – A place to call home and a spiritual family to share life with.
- PARTNER – Invest financially to transform the lives of children, teenagers, and adults.
- SERVE – Become a ROCKSTAR volunteer as you cross the white line on the field and leverage your gifts and talents to make us a better team.

- PRAY – Unite in the power of prayer and expect the authentic power and presence of God every time we gather.
LIFE IN COLORADO SPRINGS
This city is one of the most amazing places to live and raise a family. We are regularly chosen as one of the top cities in the US to live (USNEWS #3 ) and this year we were voted the friendliest city in the nation. We have more days of sunshine than Florida with amazing mountain views, plenty of hiking and bike trails, and snow skiing within 2 hours away. A misconception is Colorado is covered in snow from November to April. When the fact is here on the front range of the Rockies, we have year-round enjoyable weather other than the occasional snowstorm that quickly melts away a day or two after it arrives. We have tons of restaurants, shops, fun tourist attractions, great schools along with an authentic family vibe throughout the community.
