Duties
- Ensure the safety and security of the public by responding to emergencies, providing assistance to victims, and reducing or preventing involvement in crime.
- Build relationships with the community while helping to contribute to the health and safety of vulnerable populations.
- Create community awareness by using crime prevention methods or intervention initiatives.
- Conduct thorough investigations of crimes.
- Prepare detailed reports on incidents and arrests.
- Enforce traffic laws and city ordinances.
- Participate in and testify at court hearings when required.
- Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies and community organizations to enhance public safety.
- Demonstrate pride in the job and place of employment.
- Represent the City of Rock Valley and the Rock Valley Police Department at all times in a professional manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Experience
Candidates for the Police Officer position should possess a background that demonstrates their capability in law enforcement or related fields. Preferred skills include:
- Able to pass all written examinations, physical fitness tests, and psychological tests that are required by the State of Iowa and the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
- Strong drive to serve the community with integrity and professionalism.
- Ability to communicate in English and Spanish is an asset.
- Have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Meet hearing standards.
- Have uncorrected vision of at least 20/100 in both eyes.
- Have good moral character and pass a background investigation.
- Not be addicted to drugs or alcohol.
