Job Summary

The Pest Service Specialist will be responsible for various tasks related to controlling insects, rodents and other pests involving the application of professional products and tactics. The Pest Service Specialist will conduct home and property inspections by identifying potential and actual pest problems, remove unwanted pests, setup and check on laid traps, install Sentricon systems and design further control strategies such as Integrated Pest Management.


Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Tasks may include (based on services offered within assigned region), but are not limited to the following:

  • Providing call-back or initial pest control services to residential and commercial customers including but not limited to inside and outside spray applications of pest control services, traps, gel baits, and other pest-related methods per the Integrated Pest Management process.
  • Assisting and providing back-up to pest service professionals in completing their routes during paid time off or staffing shortages.
  • Using auger to drill holes into ground for Sentricon stations and uses other tools to dig trenches for liquid termite applications, when applicable. Monitoring Sentricon or other bait stations at regular intervals.
  • Maintaining service schedules for all customers on assigned routes and calling customers prior to their service.
  • Providing steam, liquid treatments for bed bugs and/or heat treatment applications.
  • Assisting with installing wildlife and pest traps, applies caulks or other supplies to fill in gaps/holes in the structure of the house, spays installation (TAP Insulation), uses a respirator and other construction methods to resolve issues.
  • Assisting with moisture/vapor barriers in crawl spaces, where services are offered.
  • Perform assigned duties on rooftops, in attics, in crawl spaces, and on ladders at least 40ft high, and can take pictures of effected areas and show them to the customer.
  • Communicating effectively with customers before, during and after service delivery to assess and meet their needs.
  • Continuously monitors infestation/rodent areas and pest application methods (i.e. baits, traps, etc.) after application and communicates progress to customers and operation managers.
  • Communicating with sales staff to meet client expectations.
  • Participating in ongoing training programs to constantly improve upon skill level.
  • Completing and submitting service-related paperwork in a timely and orderly fashion.
  • Maintaining assigned service vehicle, equipment and tools in clean/good working condition.
  • Adhering and abiding by all driving laws/company policies when operating company vehicles.
  • Ability to read and understand product/PPE labels accurately to ensure that they are properly applied, stored and disposed of in compliance with State and Federal laws.
  • Inspect properties for additional pest and/or lawn service needs to generate leads and/or proposals and close sales, if necessary.
  • Participating in collections efforts.
  • Additional projects as assigned.

Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Skills

Required:

  • Complete a minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Position requires successful completion of 30-day initial training (classroom and field training) and earning minimum of two CEU’s annually.
  • Must have a valid driver license and be 18 years of age.
  • Required to use 40ft ladder.
  • Must be able to walk, climb, stoop, reach, crawl, crouch, kneel, push, pull and lift at least 50lbs or more.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication, with emphasis during telephone calls, follow-ups, and in-person correspondence.
  • Ability to calculate basic math.
  • Working in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; where a momentary lapse of concentration can result in serious injury, death, environmental consequences, or data breach.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays.
  • Must be able to pass a seven-year criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass substance abuse testing.
  • Must be able to pass a three-year motor vehicle report and meet minimum eligibility requirements criteria of insurance carrier.

Associated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of information and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to read and understand product/PPE labels accurately to ensure that they are properly applied, stored and disposed of in compliance with State and Federal laws.
  • Ability to establish strong internal and external relationships.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and complete all scheduled productions stops.

License/Certification

Preferred:

  • Termite and Other Wood-Destroying Organisms (WDO) License or WDO Operator Certification
  • General Household Pest (GHP) License
  • Lawn & Ornamental (L&O) License
  • Fumigation License

Working Environment

Works in an outside environment and is subject to inclement weather, hot, humid, cold, rainy, and other temperature and weather-related conditions. Employee is subject to sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above ambient noise level. Works with chemicals and other industry-related products.


Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Employees are required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment. Subject to outside environmental conditions including atmospheric conditions of one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory systems: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation. No effective protection from the weather and from temperature changes. Works frequently in close quarters, attics, crawl spaces, small, enclosed rooms, and other areas that could cause claustrophobia. Employees are subject to hazards which include on a ladder up to 40 ft high. Physical requirements include exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of forces frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move object in addition to climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, grasping, talking, hearing and repetitive motions.

Employee will be using goggles/safety glasses, respirator stored in re-sealable bag, nitrile gloves, unlined neoprene gloves, first aid kit, eye wash, spill control, orange safety cones, label/SDS book, chemically sensitive list, shoe covers, bump cap, knee pads, utility belt gel bait gun and holster, bellow duster, bulb duster, web head and pole (20ft extend), measuring wheel, hand lens/magnifying glass, rake/pitchfork, flash light step ladder (50lbs), screwdriver (Philips/standard), locator, Sentricon pliers, hand auger, measuring device for liquid and dry formulation, mobile devices (phone and tablet), 1-gallon compressed air sprayer, 4-gallon backpack sprayer, gas powered mosquito blower, hand held spreader, ear buds or noise-cancelling headphones, cordless drill, B&G Versa Tool (trigger valve, 24” short rod, 4’ long rod), cone tip, directional tips, Hilti T36 and T10 hammer drill, large and small trenching tool, shovel, extension cords, halogen drop lights, water meter shut off tool, truck charger, John Deere Gator, rodent traps, masonry tools, equipment to shred and blow insulation w/ pest control products in attics, dehumidifies, commercial fans, electric/gas heaters (bed bug heat treatment), temperature gauges, heat duct tubing and technician service vehicle.
