- Experience working with students who have autism and require special education support
- Ability to support an individual student or a small group of students with significant academic, behavioral, social, and physical needs
- Ability to support students across a variety of settings (classroom, hallway, lunchroom, playground, bathroom)
- Ability to adapt and be flexible to unexpected changes in schedule
- Familiarity with or willingness to be trained in feeding protocols and toileting procedures
- Ability to effectively communicate and build relationships with students, families, and staff members
- Willingness and commitment to include equity, social justice, and inclusion in all practices
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to be responsible for learning and adapting to students’ special physical, communicative, and emotional needs
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to keep accurate records and notes as required with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to implement academic and behavioral supports under the direction of the special education teacher
- Ability to take accurate data daily to document progress on academic and behavioral goals
- High school diploma (with college-level coursework in education preferred)
- Knowledge of elementary-level curriculum (preferred)
- Excellent attendance record
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- CPI (Nonviolent Crisis Intervention) or Ukeru certification or willingness to become certified
- CPR certification or willingness to become certified
