General Definition of Work
Performs intermediate manual work in the care and cleaning of the Animal Shelter and related work as apparent or assigned. Work if performed under the close supervision of the Animal Shelter Manager.
Qualification Requirements

Essential Functions Scrubs and cleans restrooms including mirrors, wash basins, commodes, etc.; fills toilet paper, towel, soap and hand sanitizer dispensers. Sweeps assigned areas and room; mops and/or squeegees floors. Wipes down furniture, walls, and window sills; cleans and dusts window blinds. Cleans glass doors, windows, walls, countertops, vents and light fixtures. Washes bowls, litter pans and safety equipment. Removes trash from trashcans and puts in dumpster; removes recycling from recycling bins and place in appropriate receptacles. Washes, folds and puts away laundry. Maintains inventory of cleaning supplies and ensures an adequate supply is available.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General Knowledge of building cleaning practices, supplies and equipment and ability to use them economically and efficiently; ability to understand oral and written directions; ability to read and write; physical ability to perform heavy manual labor; ability to work independently, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
Physical Requirements
This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force, frequent exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 50 pounds of force; work frequently standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires sitting, climbing or balancing, smelling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities; work frequently requires exposure to fumes or airborne particles, exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals and exposure to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a highly noisy locations (e.g. near dog kennels and intake).
Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in custodial work or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements Valid driver’s license in the State of North Carolina
