POSITION PURPOSE : The role of the Middle Rio Grande (MRG) Summer Coordinator is to ensure proper functioning of summer crew logistics in accordance with RMYC guidelines and the philosophy of Positive Youth Development (PYD). The coordinator will oversee multiple projects and crews, support the personal and professional development of crew members, and promote a culture of safety at all times, all while supporting Crew Supervisors in meeting expectations of project quality and efficiency. This individual specifically will oversee a trail crew, a habitat restoration crew, and a conservancy district crew out of the MRG region, and the qualified applicant will have experience in these fields.
Position Type : Seasonal, full time, exempt. Schedules will vary based on crews assigned. Typical schedule is 7 : 00 AM – 3 : 300 PM, Monday-Friday, with additional time as required by program responsibilities.
Salary : $19.50 / hour paid biweekly
Reports to : MRG Conservation Program Manager
Dates : May 5, 2025 to August 8, 2025
Exact dates may change due to project partner needs, funding availability, or other situations that may arise)
Location : Based out of Albuquerque, NM with travel around the Middle Rio Grande Region

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :
Program Coordination
Care for and coordinate projects and partnerships for summer season crews
Communicate with project partners to ensure timely completion of project activities and outcomes.
Regularly communicate project timelines to Crew Leaders, Crews, and Program Manager
Work closely with the MRG Program Manager in tracking and management of vehicles, tools, supplies, and equipment.
Provide general oversight for program operations.
Provide general risk management oversight and communicate risk management issues with Crew Leaders and Program Manager
Personnel Management and Training
Directly supervise, coach, and guide crew Leaders, ensuring Professional Youth Development, professional and efficient crew operations, and the fulfillment of RMYC’s mission
Provide technical training for Summer Program in areas of expertise including trail construction, trail maintenance, gardening, small-scale agricultural tasks, invasive species removal, environmental education,, community outreach, and tool use / maintenance.
Communicate and manage corpsmember performance or behavioral issues with Crew Leaders
Collaborate with RMYC Training Department on weekly education session design and coordination.
Administrative Duties
Coordinate completion of project reporting (Project Impact Forms) on summer crews to inform bi- weekly reports.
Assist crew leaders in tracking and coding all projects, expenses, and in-kind contributions.
Review and approve timesheets for Crew Members and Crew Leaders
Complete paperwork with accuracy and efficiency
Other responsibilities
Participate in staff and program meetings.
Substitute for Crew Leaders when necessary
Work with other staff members on a variety of events and projects
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Knowledge
Familiarity with conservation work, agricultural work, and public lands
Advanced skill level in all or most of the following : trail construction and maintenance, gardening / small-scale agriculture, landscaping, and hand tool use and maintenance.
Knowledge of local community, regional contacts, and agency partnerships
Experience
Experience with positive youth development and working with youth ages 17-25
Experience working with young people, preferably in an outdoor and / or experiential setting.
Experience overseeing staff and projects.
Skills

Proficient in all Microsoft Office Suite applications

Preferred Experience / Education / Certification :
College / vocational / technical degree in education, natural resources, youth development or related experience from the conservation field
Three or more seasons of experience in a youth conservation corps or similar field
Two or more years (or seasonal equivalent) of supervisory experience
Physical Activities and Requirements
The MRG Summer Coordinator may be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on an infrequent basis. This individual must be able to operate office equipment, telephone, and computer and reach with hands and arms. The MRG Summer Coordinator may be required to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted. The ability to drive an organizational vehicle is also required.

RMYC staff are expected to participate in occasional unpaid volunteer service activities
