What are the responsibilities and job description for the Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Designer position at Roeslein & Associates?
POSITION SUMMARY :
The Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Designer will research, develop, design, and test instrumentation, controls, and electrical equipment, systems, and components applying principles and techniques of electrical, process, and controls engineering.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Design PID control loops.
- Design, specify, and purchase process instrumentation (PI’s, TI’s, LG’s, Flow Meters, Analyzers, etc.)
- Design and specify instrument hookup details.
- Design, specify, and purchase process control valves.
- Specify MOC’s for process instrumentation and control valves.
- Work with vendors for solutions to complicated process instrument and control requirements.
- Understand minimum, maximum, and normal flow conditions for instrument specifications.
- Prepare and review P&ID’s for instrumentation.
- Design and purchase motor control center equipment and VFD’s.
- Design and purchase plant PAX systems or DCS systems.
- Design datacenter IT rooms and UPS backup storage rooms.
- Design and purchase telemetry systems.
- Design and specify heat tracing.
- Prepare detailed bills of material for all of the above.
- Work closely with estimating and assist with estimating proposals for electrical and instrumentation.
- Understand and incorporate client specifications into Roeslein designs for all the above.
- Conduct Final Acceptance Tests (FAT’s) at RMF or at Client sites.
- Fully commission systems, startup systems, test systems, and oversee modifications for programming. Tight coordination with Owner’s specifications and existing systems.
- Track project schedules, project budgets, responsibilities of work, participate in team project meetings, and coordinate with contractors.
- Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
- Travel domestically and internationally ranging from 20-30% per year.
- Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
WORK ENVIRONMENT :
Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions are possible for short period time—such as : dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures. Must be able to travel to jobsites both domestically and internationally; living accommodations in some foreign assignments may not meet expected U.S. standards. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs. on a regular basis is required.
