Landscape Project Manager / Estimator

Job Summary
We are a respected design-build landscape construction company in the Sacramento region seeking an experienced Landscape Project Manager/Estimator to join our team. In this role, you will oversee landscape construction projects from initial planning and estimation through final completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities
- Project Planning & Management: Plan, schedule, and oversee multiple landscape construction projects (design-build) from start to finish, ensuring each project meets design specifications, quality standards, and safety regulations.
- Estimating & Budgeting: Prepare detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, and equipment for prospective projects. Monitor project budgets and costs closely to maintain profitability and report on job performance.
- Crew & Subcontractor Management: Manage and coordinate field crews and subcontractors, providing clear direction, scheduling work, and ensuring high-quality craftsmanship. Mentor and supervise team members, and promote a safe, efficient work environment.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Ensure all work is completed to company quality standards and in compliance with relevant building codes and safety protocols. Conduct regular site visits to inspect progress and promptly address any issues or deviations.
- Client Interaction: Participate in client meetings and project walk-throughs, effectively communicating project updates, timelines, and technical details. Serve as a professional representative of the company, addressing client questions and ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Problem Solving: Proactively identify and resolve project challenges or delays. Inspire creative solutions on the job site to overcome obstacles while keeping projects on track.
- Documentation: Maintain thorough project documentation including schedules, change orders, and progress reports. Use project management tools and Google Sheets to track progress, and provide regular updates to senior management on project status and profitability.
Qualifications and Skills
- Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in landscape construction management or a related construction project management role. Strong background in overseeing construction projects, managing crews, and delivering results on time and on budget.
- Project Oversight & Estimation: Proven ability to accurately estimate project costs (materials, labor, equipment) and manage project financials to ensure job profitability. Experience preparing bids/proposals for landscape construction work is a plus.
- Leadership: Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to supervise, motivate, and mentor construction crews and subcontractors. A track record of effectively managing teams to achieve project goals is required.
- Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Comfortable leading meetings and coordinating with clients, architects/designers, inspectors, and team members. Bilingual English/Spanish is highly preferred to facilitate communication with both clients and field crews.
- Organizational Skills: Exceptional organizational and time management abilities. Capable of juggling multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with modern office and design tools. Must be adept with Gmail and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.) for correspondence and documentation. Experience with CAD software (such as AutoCAD) and the Land F/X plugin for landscape design is required for reading plans and making design adjustments. Familiarity with project management and scheduling software (or Google Sheets-based scheduling) is also important.
- Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of landscape construction processes, horticulture basics, and construction best practices. Ability to read and interpret landscape architectural plans, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Able to anticipate issues and implement solutions to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Work Ethic: Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and a “hands-on” approach to ensure project success. Takes pride in delivering high-quality work and excellent service.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record (a company vehicle or vehicle allowance will be provided for work use). Ability to pass any required background or drug screenings.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive Salary: Up to $90,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
- Company Vehicle/Allowance: Company vehicle provided for work travel (or a vehicle allowance, if preferred), enabling you to easily visit job sites across the Sacramento region.

Physical Requirements
This position involves both office and on-site work in a construction environment. Candidates should be able to meet the physical demands typical of landscape construction management, including:
- Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment up to 80 lbs as needed.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and bend, as well as stand and walk for extended periods (often 8-10 hours a day on site).
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and on uneven terrain or dusty/dirty conditions.
- Ability to safely navigate construction sites, including climbing in and out of work vehicles or trenches, and use of hands for tools or controls.
