Immediate Opening for Legal/Office Assistant
Well-known law firm in downtown Santa Barbara is seeking a full-time Legal/Office assistant to support the office and the litigation and transactional law team. This candidate will be able to assist attorneys throughout all phases of transactional matters and the litigation process including, but not limited to, intake, court filings, depositions, and building exhibits as well as assist the office in various “Office Runner” duties . Salary commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits package. Position available immediately. Hours are 8:30 am-5:30 pm Monday through Friday (possibly 8-5).
Responsibilities:
For Legal Assistant aspect of position:
- Assist in preparation of legal documents
- Manage litigation calendars
- Create and maintain organized client case files
- Communicate with clients, attorneys, court staff, etc. via mail, e-mail, and telephone
- Perform advanced administrative duties for attorneys, including review of pleadings and correspondence, and finalizing motions for filing with the Court
- Prepare initial draft discovery and subpoenas for attorneys’ review
- Perform other duties as assigned
For Office Assistant aspect of position:
- Assist in variety of office tasks including errands to the courts, post office, Fed Ex, bank and various local business offices
- Distribute mail and deliveries in office, stamping and taking mail to post office
- Supply ordering and stocking
- Loading, running, unloading dishwasher & distributing dishes to other floor (minimal)
- Assist with various other duties/projects as time and prioritized Legal Assistant schedule allows
Qualifications:
- Previous legal experience required
- College degree preferred
- Strong communication skills
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to remain organized in a demanding workflow
- Comfortability using various e-Filing systems
- Ability to diligently track important deadlines
- Attention to detail
- Strict adherence to confidentiality
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor both on the phone and in person
- The candidate must be personable and flexible
