Our kitchen staff is the heart of the house & we're looking for creative, driven, energetic people to join our team working at our Brewer's on the Bay in Newport, Oregon. We’re hiring line cooks who can crush the busiest times with a great attitude, share their passion for cooking and kick out a fun special every now and then, all while taking pride in keeping their work environment clean and safe.
Job Overview
Accurately and efficiently cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups and other hot food products as well as prepare and portion food products prior to cooking. Also perform other duties in the areas of food and final plate preparation including plating and garnishing of cooked items and preparing appropriate garnishes for all hot menu item plates.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare a variety of meats, seafood, poultry, vegetables and other food items for cooking in broilers, ovens, grills, fryers and a variety of other kitchen equipment.
- Assumes 100% responsibility for quality of products served.
- Knows and complies consistently with our standard portion sizes, cooking methods, quality standards and kitchen rules, policies and procedures.
- Stocks and maintains sufficient levels of food products at line stations to assure a smooth service period.
- Portions food products prior to cooking according to standard portion sizes and recipe specifications.
- Maintains a clean and sanitary work station area including tables, shelves, grills, broilers, fryers, pasta cookers, sauté burners, convection oven, flat top range and refrigeration equipment.
- Prepares items for broiling, grilling, frying, sautéing or other cooking methods by portioning, battering, breading, seasoning and/or marinating.
- Follows proper plate presentation and garnish set up for all dishes.
- Handles, stores and rotates all products properly.
- Assists in food prep assignments during off-peak periods as needed.
- Closes the kitchen properly and follows the closing checklist for kitchen stations. Assists others in closing the kitchen.
- Assists with dishwashing as needed and ensuring all dishes are clean.
- Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or manager-on-duty.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in kitchen preparation and cooking.
- At least 6 months experience in a similar capacity.
Required skills:
- Customer-Service: Line cooks might have to interact with customers. Being friendly and courteous will help keep customers coming back.
- Attention to Detail: Line Cooks must keep their eyes on a lot of elements: food standards, safety, etc.
- Speaking Skills: Line Cooks need to accurately and easily communicate standards and cooking methods to co-workers and speak with customers clearly.
- Stamina: Line Cooks can expect long days around hot cooking elements, much of it on their feet.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and be able to move kegs which weigh close to 165 pounds.
