Responsible for organizing and carrying out structured learning processes for students in the Diesel Technology program and related courses.  Participates in the full range of professional and college-related activities, including student advising, curriculum development, professional growth, departmental and college-wide meetings, committee activity and community involvement.

Supervision Received
The Dean is responsible for carrying out the evaluation of instructors with input from the Department Chair or Director under procedures developed by the Dean.  The Dean will confer with the Department Chair or Director in decisions regarding instructor workload, professional growth, retention, and department staffing levels.
 


  1. Instructs students in a classroom, lab, or other setting as appropriate.
  2. Advises students on matters of program goals and course requirements, scheduling office hours as needed.
  3. Prepares, distributes and utilizes instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, and other devices as appropriate.
  4. Develops, communicates, and utilizes a student assessment process and instruments which are related to the stated objectives of the course.
  5. Conduct assessments to support course, program, and institutional goals, ensuring alignment with student success and institutional outcomes
  6. Participates as a team member in department meetings and planning activities.
  7. Participates in curriculum planning and development.
  8. Serves as a member of college-wide standing committees, screening committees, and other related activities as assigned.
  9. Participates in the development of the quarterly class schedule and the annual departmental budget; initiates purchase requisitions, travel requests, and work orders as needed.
  10. Engages in regular professional growth activities based on the objectives established in an approved professional growth plan.
  11. Represents the program and the college to the community, businesses, public agencies, and other organizations in a professional manner.
  12. Responsible for departmental equipment: participates in periodic inventory, and provides for the security of facilities and instructional materials as appropriate to the department.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:   An Associate of Applied Science degree in diesel technology required.
 
Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted:   accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609.  Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
 
Licenses and Certificates:  Current ASE Master Automotive and/or Diesel Technician and L2-Electronic Diesel Engine Diagnosis certification is required.  Factory and brand specific certifications are highly desirable.  For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License and proof of an acceptable driving record are required. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
 
Experience:  A minimum of 5 years current industry experience with diagnosis and repair of all aspects of truck and or heavy equipment repair. Thorough knowledge of electronics systems is mandatory. Teaching experience within the past three years preferred.

Knowledge of:  Truck/heavy equipment industry; truck systems which include engine repair, manual and automatic transmissions, front ends, brakes, hydraulics, heating and air conditioning, and electrical systems.
 
Proficient in using various software such as electronic service manuals, engine diagnosis/wave forms; computer applications for communication and learning, curriculum development; the contemporary community college’s mission, its role in higher education, and its diverse student population; the role of accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act; and different pedagogical methods, including lecture, group activity, discussion, and individual instruction to accommodate a variety of learning styles.

Ability to:  Direct and assist students in labs with the diagnosis and repair of truck/heavy equipment systems in live situations. Communicate effectively and respectfully with diverse students, staff, and community members.  Demonstrate experience or potential for innovation and creativity in both the classroom and related educational duties; demonstrate a commitment to professional standards and growth.

Physical Demands of Position: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate heavy objects. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc. Duties also require frequently moving materials including tools, equipment, engine parts, etc., weighing up to 100 pounds with the assistance of proper safety equipment. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 60% of the work period while instructing on the diagnosis and repair of automotive and diesel engines, and operating equipment such as a computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
 
 Working conditions: Usual working conditions found in a comprehensive indoor and outdoor lab setting with automotive and diesel engine diagnostics and repair. The noise level in the work area is typical of most engine repair shops. Use of proper safety equipment is required at all timesThis is a Full-Time Faculty position (100%, 10 months/year) in the Diesel DepartmentStarting compensation will be in accordance with initial step placement per the current Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement and the 2024-25 Full-Time Faculty salary schedule. Consideration will be given to experience and educational achievement.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness
Rogue Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
