What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Organist - Mother Seton Parish - Germantown Maryland position at Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington?
Mother Seton Parish in Germantown, MD is seeking a part-time organist to assist with choir rehearsals and weekend Masses. This person would be the primary accompanist for the Sunday 10:45 am Choir Mass and would also be scheduled for two or more additional masses with a cantor each weekend. The position is part-time and is paid by service/call. Compensation commensurate with experience and organ proficiency. Start date of August 18th, 2024. Position will remain open until filled.
Requirements:
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent experience in organ performance
- Working knowledge of the Roman Catholic Liturgy
- Strong sight-reading skills
- Ability to work well and collaboratively with others.
Responsibilities:
- Available to play weekend Masses, (Sunday at 10:45 am and a minimum of two additional weekend Masses, scheduled monthly) and Holy Days of Obligation.
- Available for Ash Wednesday, Christmas Eve and Day and the entire Holy Week and Sacred Paschal Triduum
- Proficient in organ and piano. The majority of music for Mass is accompanied on the organ with occasional pieces on piano. Rehearsals are generally accompanied on the piano.
- Arrive 30 minutes before each Mass to rehearse with the cantor and 40 minutes before Mass to warm-up with the choir.
- Serve as rehearsal accompanist on Wednesday evenings for the English Choir, 7:30pm – 9:30pm.
- Accompany the youth choir rehearsals on Tuesday evenings, 6:15pm – 7:30pm
- Maintain a regular practice schedule to play all music for the Mass at the highest level and with the directions given by the Director of Music.
- There is an opportunity for more work outside of the required responsibilities listed above should the person hired desire more work and income.
