The Rome City School District is actively recruiting for a full time Assistant Principal at Rome Free Academy. Selected candidate shall possess the necessary NYS School Building Leader Certification. The Rome City School District offers competitive salary and benefits.

Assistant Principal Duties

Administration

In the absence of the principal:

  • Operates and manages the school according to policies established by the principal, superintendent and Board of Education. The management of the building must at all times be within the confines of the various labor contracts agreed upon by the District.
  • Assists in the general administration of the school and serves as the acting principal when the principal is absent.

Teaching Personnel

  • Assists in the interviews of prospective professional staff members.
  • Supports teachers in the performance of their departments.
  • Provides opportunities for professional growth of staff.
  • Assists in the orientation for new teachers.
  • Supports new teachers with classroom concerns including instruction, discipline, and students’ family needs.

Student Personnel

  • Assists with the integration of the goals and objectives of the school with the needs of the learners.
  • Assists with the collection, organization, and interpretation of data to compare students' present and previous achievement.
  • Assists the building principal with school discipline.
  • Assists in the development of student activities.
  • Participates in the responsibility for the safety and security of students and all others participating in the educational programs of the school.
  • Assists with before and after school supervision.
  • Assists with the bus procedures (arrival, dismissal, school day departures) and supervision.
  • Assists with the co-curricular activities of the students.
  • Assists with school assemblies and student performances.
  • Assists with recreation supervision.
  • Assists with the cafeteria supervision.
  • Assists in the reporting to parents regarding student progress including parent conferences and report cards.

Ancillary Personnel

  • Assists in the supervision of ancillary personnel.
  • Assists in maintaining records of ancillary personnel.
  • Assists in the supervision and management of the school office.

Curriculum and In-Service

  • Supports teachers in the implementation of district and building programs.
  • Helps assess the academic program through the collection of data - both formal and informal.
  • Helps in planning and development of in-service training.
  • Participates in the preparation of reports and maintenance of records.
  • Participates in district and school professional meetings.
  • Maintains a constant effort to keep aware of curriculum innovations that surface in areas inside and outside the district.

Shared Decision Making

  • Serves on the E.A.P. Committee.
  • Meets periodically with grade levels to assist them in their Shared Decision Making.
  • Assists in compiling data and research for the Shared Decision Making Executive Committee.
  • Assists in the dissemination of information to the school and families.
  • Assists in long-range building planning.
  • Assists in the evaluation of school programs.

Parent Relationship and Communication

  • Maintains a positive relationship with parents of students.
  • Attends after school parent/family organizational meetings.
  • Serves as chairman of Room Parents.
  • Disseminates school news and information to parents.
  • Facilitates occasional parent conferences.

Community/School Leadership

  • Serves with parents, faculty, and community groups as requested in advancing educational and school-related activities.
  • Assists with the development and administration of procedures for parent and community participation.

Note: These duties are traditionally assigned to a certified assistant principal. In the event the person is an administrative intern, that person shall perform only those duties allowed by law and labor agreements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
