Job Description: The Land Survey Crew Chief performs highly specialized and complex paraprofessional land survey work, serving as the lead worker on a survey crew. This role involves instructing crew members on survey techniques and overseeing survey operations, distinguishing it from a Junior Crew Chief position. Responsibilities also include training employees, directing work, addressing complaints, and resolving problems in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise survey crews in conducting land surveys.
- Instruct crew members on proper survey techniques and procedures.
- Ensure accurate and precise measurements using survey instruments.
- Interpret construction plans and specifications for surveying purposes.
- Conduct field surveys using GPS and other survey technology.
- Maintain records of survey data and prepare reports as required.
- Manage survey equipment and ensure proper maintenance and calibration.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations during survey operations.
- Collaborate with engineers, architects, and construction personnel as needed.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Land Survey Crew Chief or similar role.
- Proficiency in field survey methods and techniques used in land surveying and mapping.
- Familiarity with survey technology, including GPS systems.
- Knowledge of construction plans and specifications relevant to surveying.
- Ability to operate survey instruments for measurement and location purposes.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for instructing crew members and interacting with clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Professional licensure or certification as a Land Surveyor.
- Prior experience in managing survey projects or teams.
