Yes Job Type Full-Time Working Hours Position Summary The Director of the Counseling and Wellness Center is responsible for leadership in the following duties : administration (including budget and day-to-day running of the center), planning and implementation of clinical services (including standards of practice as defined by legal and ethical guidelines), supervision of staff and trainees (including role as director of training for graduate students working in center), and evaluation of counseling services (including changing needs of university). Additionally, the director provides vision, strategic planning, and ongoing assessment to advance Counseling and Wellness Center goals and University strategic plan.

This position reports to the Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students and works with other staff members to offer comprehensive services for students and appropriate consultation for the campus community. Additionally, as a training site, the position would also maintain a relationship with local training organizations such as The Association of Chicagoland Externship and Practicum Training Sites (ACEPT) in order to comply with training needs for students working at the site.

  • Strong generalist therapy skills with ability to evaluate and diagnose clients.
  • Experience with crisis management, clinical interventions, diagnostic assessment, outreach, providing supervision.
  • Knowledge of community resources and understanding of referral base.
  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student body.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, rules, and codes of ethics pertaining to the provision of mental health services.
  • Ability to follow all confidentiality and privacy expectations as well as strong clinical judgment in all situations.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Years of Experience Required Minimum 5 years Required Education Doctoral Degree Certification / Licensure Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be independently licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Illinois (LP).
  • At least 5 years clinical experience in a university / college counseling center or related mental health agency is required. Experience in administrative work required, preference within a university counseling center
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with best practices for college or university counseling centers, with an understanding of the administrative and legal complexities associated with administration of a college counseling center.
  • Special skills and experience relevant to substance abuse, women’s issues, and underserved populations.
  • Experience with Titanium as a way of managing the center and documenting clinical records as relates to services provided.
  • Experience in an urban college or university with a residential and large commuter student population.

  • Formulate, organize, and administer policy for all phases of the Counseling and Wellness Center operations. Including planning and maintaining the annual operating budget.
  • Assist in developing and administering protocols and procedures in keeping with current best-practices for college counseling centers.
  • Provide oversight and management of all aspects of counseling services, including individual and group counseling, assessments, and referrals.
  • Provide evidenced-based clinical supervision to counseling staff and trainees.
  • Provide clinical supervision and training of unlicensed staff, externs, and interns.
  • Provide direct clinical service through client-centered treatment plans designed to assist a diverse college-student population with a wide range of presenting concerns, and with the flexibility to offer these services both in-person and via tele-behavior health.
  • Assess risk and provide appropriate crisis intervention. When clinically indicated, assist, and coordinate higher level of care utilizing community mental health resources.
  • Develop and deliver in-service training programs and workshops to student peer leaders including resident assistants and peer mentors on topics associated with student mental health.
  • Ensure proper record keeping and reporting in accordance with appropriate professional and ethical standards and provide oversight of documentation systems for center personnel, including but not limited to Titanium.
  • Oversee operations of counseling services in keeping with standards and guidelines articulated by Illinois law, the American Psychological Association, the American College Counseling Association, a division of the American Counseling Association, and the Council for the Advancement of Standards.
  • Work in conjunction with the Dean of Students, Residence Life, Accessibility Resources, and other units as needed, and support Title IX incident response.
