The Role
RoosterBio is seeking a Scientist to join our Process Development team. This individual will specialize in the optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer of MSC and extracellular vesicle (EV) manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate is an innovative, detail-oriented professional with expertise in bioprocess engineering and mammalian cell culture.
This role plays a critical function in supporting Rooster Bio’s customers by developing robust, scalable bioprocesses and facilitating customers’ transition from R&D to GMP production. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally to advance process development projects and drive continuous improvements in MSC and EV production.
Essential Job Duties
• Design, execute, and analyze process development experiments to optimize and scale cell culture processes for the expansion and cryopreservation of MSCs and/or the production and purification of extracellular vesicles (EV).
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to transfer technology to Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) for GMP production.
• Contribute to RoosterBio product development by identifying process challenges and novel solutions.
• Effectively communicate project progress to internal team and to external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with team members and other departments (Operations/QC/QA/Regulatory) to support and solve technical challenges.
• Work on prioritized projects and efficiently execute to achieve goals within dedicated timeline.
• Draft, review, and update batch records and standard operating procedures.
• Assist with lab maintenance and perform additional duties as needed.
Skills/Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biology, or other related discipline with 0-3 years of relevant industry experience is preferred. A master’s degree with additional experience will be considered.
• Experience in mammalian cell culture and aseptic techniques is required.
• Experience with adherent mammalian cell culture, especially with MSCs (mesenchymal stem/stromal cells) or for EV (extracellular vesicle) production is preferred.
• Experience with common bioprocessing unit operations, such as stirred-tank or vertical-wheel bioreactors, filtration, or chromatography, is preferred.
• Experience with multi-layer vessels and closed-system processing technologies is preferred.
• Candidate should be collaborative and team-focused, prioritizing collective success and actively contributing to a supportive, high-performing work environment.
• Candidate should possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Candidate should have the ability to perform studies accurately and reproducibly, adequately documenting activities and procedures in laboratory notebooks.
• Candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S for other than practical training.
• Occasional weekend and off-hours work will be required to support cell culture.
