Position Overview
We are seeking an HR Generalist to join ROOTs Transition and support our mission of healing the lives of those impacted by complex trauma through agency, curiosity, and community. This individual will play a crucial role in fostering a positive and supportive work environment, ensuring that our team has the resources, training, and support needed to carry out their vital work.
The HR Generalist will oversee key HR functions, including recruitment and onboarding, employee relations, payroll and benefits administration, training, and legal compliance, all while aligning with ROOTs' core values. By cultivating a culture of inclusivity and collaboration, this person will help attract and retain compassionate staff dedicated to the success of both our clients and our program.
Through these efforts, the HR Generalist will support the growth and development of our team, contributing to the overall success of ROOTs Transition and helping to create an environment where both adolescents and employees can heal and thrive within our community.
Qualifications
Experience and Education
- Bachelor's in Human Resources, Business or related field
- HR or other Administrative experience required
Knowledge, skills and abilities

Responsibilities
- Recruiting, interviewing, and hiring candidates
- Process and administer payroll for all hourly employees
- Manages receipts, invoices and reimbursements
- Oversees health benefits open enrollment and monthly benefit enrollments for new hires and change requests
- Oversees all employee off-boarding processes, layoffs and terminations
- Plans and creates weekly Guide Schedule
- Manages all new hire paperwork, generate offer letters, maintain physical and digital files
- Conducts background and driving record checks on all new hires, verifying annually
- Ensures compliance: reviewing, tracking, and documenting compliance with training, continuing education
- Manages and audits employee files
- Educates new employees on HR policies, internal procedures, Employee Handbook and communication training
- Assists in maintaining necessary documentation for annual state license requirements
- Ensures policies and procedures are in compliance with all state, federal, and local laws
- Provides employee support: addressing employee questions and issues
- Creates and distributes internal communications
- Fosters and maintains positive relationships with employees
- Assist with all disciplinary matters and ensure supervisors adhere to the company's disciplinary procedures
- Oversees Workers Compensation claims and OSHA logs
- Consistently exercises good judgment and adequate emotional stability in evaluating situations and making decisions despite the pressures of deadlines or the occurrence of unexpected stressful events.
- To effectively manage and decrease risk by doing the following:
- Maintain a physically and emotionally safe environment as outlined by policy and procedures and adhering to the Utah State Human Services Provider Code of Conduct.
- Supporting, cooperating with, implementing and enforcing confidentiality of all data, including client, employee and company records and information.
- Supporting, cooperating with, implementing and enforcing all ROOTs policies and procedures.
- Participate in or initiate a redirection intervention (restraint procedure) with a client who meets criteria for this according to the (ROOTs restraint training); this may be required at any time after being trained. Employees understand they are required to complete the training to prepare to be effective in these skills. These skills include the training necessary to safely, physically restrain a client whose behavior is deemed to be a risk to her or others.
- To demonstrate positive role modeling and mentoring of clients by doing the following:
- Provide a positive role model for all clients, adhering to the principles and values of the company as outlined in the employee handbook.
- Play an active role in the community by creating an emotionally safe space for clients to bring up concerns, feedback, etc.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
- Work includes active movement around the facility.
- Staff must be able to lift at least 50 lbs, and be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Employees must be able to participate alongside clients in outdoor activities that include, but are not limited to: hiking, biking, camping, skiing, etc.
- Employees must be able to operate a vehicle and sit for extended periods of time while operating a vehicle.
Compensation
- $25.00 per hour, hourly
