Summary :
The Day Treatment Mental Health Behavioral Aide provides structured support and therapeutic assistance to children aged 6-9 who have emotional, behavioral, or mental health challenges. They work under the supervision of licensed mental health professionals to implement individualized treatment plans, assist with skill-building activities, and ensure a safe, supportive, and engaging environment for children in the program. This position assists the Mental Health Practitioner and Mental Health Professional in implementing individual day treatment plans for children and their families. Promote skill development of children in day treatment as indicated by the daily program schedule. Individual children and / or groups will be assigned daily
The Day Treatment Mental Health Behavioral Aide will support anti-oppressive / anti-racist practice, and trauma-responsive practice, through their administrative, and operations support of program staff and interns working on site, in community / office, and remotely to address socioeconomic and health disparity. Experience and interest in working with clients and colleagues with a range of identities including age, developmental and acquired disabilities, religion, spirituality, ethnicity, race, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, relationship structure, indigenous heritage, national origin, immigration status, and gender is required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Complete pre-service training prior to starting work in the day treatment program.
- Assist the mental health practitioner with daily set-up and clean-up of materials and activities.
- Set-up materials and toys for individual skill work and groups as they occur throughout the program day.
- Assist with daily self-help skills, such as diapering, toileting, washing hands, eating, etc.
- Promote skill development of children in day treatment as indicated by the daily program schedule.
- Assist the child in using age-appropriate self-management skills, including communication, self-regulation, self-help skills, motor skills, and cognitive development, play, and relationship skills.
- Assist in delivering therapeutic interventions designed to improve emotional regulation, social skills, and coping strategies.
- Support group therapy sessions, social activities, and skill-building exercises.
- Work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to monitor and implement individual treatment plans.
- Monitor and address behaviors consistent with the child's treatment goals using positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques.
- Intervene when necessary to ensure safety and support emotional regulation during challenging situations.
- Communicate effectively with mental health professionals, families, and other team members about children's needs and progress.
- Maintain a consistent and predictable structure to provide a sense of security for children.
- Other related duties may be assigned.
Preferred Qualifications / Experience :
Work Environment :
Primarily a therapeutic classroom or day treatment facility designed for young children. May include daytime and after-school hours, depending on program needs.
Physical Requirements : Ability to sit, stand, and actively engage with children; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
