Summary :

The Children's Day Treatment Mental Health Practitioner will facilitate group skills sessions, provide individual and family support, and implement treatment plans to support children's emotional and behavioral development. This role is essential in helping children develop coping skills, improve social interactions, and succeed in home, school, and community settings.

The Children's Day Treatment Mental Health Practitioner will support anti-oppressive / anti-racist practice, and trauma-responsive practice, through their administrative, and operations support of program staff and interns working on site, in community / office, and remotely to address socioeconomic and health disparity. Experience and interest in working with clients and colleagues with a range of identities including age, developmental and acquired disabilities, religion, spirituality, ethnicity, race, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, relationship structure, indigenous heritage, national origin, immigration status, and gender is required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Facilitate skills group sessions for children in the day treatment program.
  • Provide individual support to children as needed, focusing on emotional regulation and skill-building.
  • Collaborate with caregivers, educators, and clinical staff to ensure coordinated care.
  • Engage in the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans.
  • Monitor and document progress, behaviors, and interventions in compliance with program standards.
  • Utilize trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches to support children's mental health needs.
  • Engage in supervision and consultation with the Treatment Supervisor
  • Document services in accordance with DHS and insurance requirements
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and training sessions as required.
  • Other related duties may be assigned

Preferred Qualifications / Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences or related field and :
  • Has at least 2,000 hours of supervised experience in the delivery of services to individuals with :
  • Mental illness, substance use disorder,
  • Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes 30 hours of additional training on mental illness, recovery and resiliency, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects; or
  • Is fluent in the non-English language of the ethnic group to which at least 50 percent of the individual's clients belong, and completes the additional training described in section 05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to a client;
  • Is working in a day treatment program under section 0671, subdivision 3, or 256B.0943;
  • Has completed a practicum or internship that (i) required direct interaction with adult clients or child clients, and (ii) was focused on behavioral sciences or related fields; or
  • Is in the process of completing a practicum or internship as part of a formal undergraduate or graduate training program in social work, psychology, or counseling.
  • Practitioner is qualified through work experience if the practitioner has either :

  • At least 4,000 hours of experience in the delivery of services to individuals with :
  • Mental illness, substance use disorder, or
  • Traumatic brain injury or developmental disabilities and completes 30 hours of additional training on mental illness, recovery and resiliency, mental health de-escalation techniques, co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse, and psychotropic medications and side effects;
  • At least 2,000 hours (1 year) of work experience and receives treatment supervision at least once per week until meeting the requirement of 4,000 hours in the delivery of services to adults with :
  • Mental illness, or substance use disorder; or
  • A traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 245I.05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to clients; or
  • Receives treatment supervision at least once per week until meeting the requirement in clause (1) of 4,000 hours of experience and has at least 2,000 hours of experience providing services to individuals with :
  • i) a mental illness or a substance use disorder; or
  • ii) a traumatic brain injury or a developmental disability, and completes the additional training described in section 05, subdivision 3, paragraph (c), before providing direct contact services to clients.
  • An individual is qualified as a mental health practitioner if the individual has a master's or other graduate degree in behavioral sciences or related fields.
  • Work Environment :

    Primarily a therapeutic classroom or day treatment facility designed for young children. May include daytime and after-school hours, depending on program needs.

    Physical Requirements : Ability to sit, stand, and actively engage with children; occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
