Job Description

Job Title : Surgical First Assistant

Job Specialty : Tech - Cardiovascular Operating Room

Job Duration : 12 weeks

Shift : 40 hrs / wk, 8 hr shifts, 0700-1530 with 2-3 weekday calls and every 4th weekend

Guaranteed Hours : 40.00

Experience : Clinical experience as a surgical assistant preferred

License : LPN : SC Labor, Licensing, and Regulation (LLR)

Certifications :

Certified surgical assistant
Certified surgical technologist
American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card

Must-Have : Ability to perform endoscopic vein harvest

Job Description :

Serve as the first assistant to vascular surgeons during surgery.

Ensure availability and functionality of surgical equipment.

Transport patients to and from the operating room and assist in patient preparation.

Harvest the saphenous vein for conducting CABG and assist with extracorporeal circulation placement.

Perform duties including suturing, operating staplers, and managing incisions and dressings as directed by the surgeon.

Maintain a safe work environment and ensure adherence to safety protocols, infection control policies, and fire safety programs.

Participate in patient charging processes and maintain service records for administrative and regulatory purposes.

Monitor inventory levels and optimize resource utilization.

Plan for regulatory changes and identify opportunities for program development to enhance services.

Develop and maintain effective relationships with surgical teams and healthcare providers, while ensuring compliance with clinical and organizational policies for patient care and safety.
