Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
Adheres to and carries out the policies, procedures, standards, and objectives of our organization and the Echocardiography Laboratory. Professionally performs m-modes, 2-D echocardiograms, color flow doppler, pulse wave doppler, continuous wave doppler, pedoff doppler, transesophageal echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms and any other procedures performed in the department. Must have good communication skills and technical knowledge. Oversees technical performance of those not registered. Teaches others cardiac anatomy, physiology, and cardiac ultrasound techniques. Must keep abreast of new advances.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs departmental diagnostic procedures accurately and timely.
- Performs accurate and timely measurements and prepares studies for physician interpretation.

Licensing/Certification
- Must retain active registry status through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or through the Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS). Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card.

Education
- High School Diploma or GED required. Prefer Associates or Bachelors Degree.

Skills
Knowledge of cardiac ultrasound theories, practices and procedures to provide quality care and exams for patients. Must show demonstrated ability to perform and preliminarily interpret all cardiac ultrasound modalities performed in the department. Must demonstrate accuracy in recording technical information, history and test results. Skilled in maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and co-workers. The ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Skilled in preparing and maintaining records accurately. Ability to verbally communicate well. Ability to handle multiple tasks with frequent interruptions.
