- Only qualified Budget Business Analyst candidates located near the San Diego, CA area to be considered due to the position requiring an onsite presence
Education :
Bachelor’s degree (required), preferably in Accounting or Finance.Must-Haves for this role :
Financial Analysis : Proven experience in financial analysis and budgets analysisExcel Proficiency : Strong analytical skills in Excel with the ability to quickly identify trends and issuesCritical Thinking : Exceptional critical thinking skills are essentialExperience : 2–3 years in an Analyst positionAcademic Environment : Prior experience in an academic setting is a mustResponsibilities :
Collaborate with the principal investigator to prepare the administrative components of proposals in compliance with sponsored and non-sponsored research guidelinesManage and communicate the submission process for both paper and electronic formats, ensuring all documents are complete and compliantDevelop, prepare, and finalize project budgets, including providing detailed budget justificationsAct as the primary liaison and active partner between principal investigators, the Office of Sponsored Research, research teams, and other departmentsAddress sponsor inquiries promptly and professionallyWork closely with the Office of Sponsored Research to ensure proper award setup and fulfillment of cost-sharing requirementsInitiate and manage cost transfers as needed.Review and approve expenditures while advising on post-award spending and commitment activities. Ensure compliance with funding and revenue policiesPrepare and deliver reports detailing project status, offering effective forecasting tools and decision-making support.Manage the contract closeout process, including submitting final reports and certifications. Compile necessary information and documentation for audit inquiriesInterpret, apply, and provide guidance on university and government policies related to research projectsServe as a subject matter expert and technical resource for principal investigators and university staffContribute to and lead process improvement initiatives. Provide leadership and guidance to staff in collaborative group projectsThere is a strong possibility that this role could transition into a full-time position.
