Position Summary:

The Associate Dean, Academic & Student Affairs for the College of Nursing reports directly to the Dean, College of Nursing and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the nursing program(s) at their home campus; developing and expanding learning opportunities for students; implementing university and program academic policies; facilitating continual improvement of the status and reputation of the College of Nursing; teaching; and addressing the needs of faculty, staff and students.  The Associate Dean, Academic & Student Affairs performs special projects as requested by the Dean.

 Essential Functions:

  • Supports the Dean, College of Nursing in the development of sustaining strategic, academic partnerships and collaborations with academic, community, healthcare, and government entities.
  • Provides effective leadership, direction, and support in implementing the vision, mission, strategic plan, and core commitments of the College of Nursing at their home campus.
  • Directs and oversees all aspects of the College of Nursing academic & student affairs activities.
  • Creates and sustains a positive student culture that integrates rigorous individual and collaborative academic achievement and support. 
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs & Learning Innovation to plan, develop and implement program goals, objectives, and outcomes measures.
  • Supports the Dean, College of Nursing in maintaining standards that lead to or continue licensing for national and state accreditation of nursing programs. 
  • Coordinates with Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs & Learning Innovation and Assistant Dean, Curriculum & Assessment to ensure all curricular and programmatic assessment is completed as required.
  • Coordinates with the Director, Clinical Resources to ensure all academic requirements for experiential education are met.
  • Manage all aspects of the grade appeal and grievance process in conjunction with the Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs & Learning Innovation.
  • Maintains and oversees appropriate student databases and academic records.
  • Provides mentorship and leadership with CON student body to promote professionalism and manages student academic professionalism issues.
  • Develops and implements an effective student resource center for the College of Nursing.
  • Coordinate with Registrar to ensure University academic records align with college records.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Admission & enrollment in coordinating orientation for incoming students.
  • Collaborates with the Dean, College of Nursing and Associate Dean, Faculty Affairs & Learning Innovation in performance reviews of all CON faculty and staff.
  • Correspond both internally and externally regarding academic & student affairs matters.
  • Promotes intra- and inter-department collaboration and communication.
  • Provides leadership and constructive counsel as an effective member of the Dean’s administrative team.
  • Assists the Dean, College of Nursing in resolving inquiries and complaints from employees, students, regulatory agencies, or members of the academic or business community.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in nursing from a nationally recognized, accredited institution.
  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline.
  • Registered Nurse in the state of Nevada or Utah or eligible for licensure.
  • Prior administrative experience in nursing at a postsecondary educational institution at the level of Assistant Dean, departmental chairperson/coordinator or equivalent administrative position.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in nursing at Baccalaureate level or higher at an accredited postsecondary educational institution.
  • Prior experience in nursing education accreditation processes.
