Position Summary:
The Clerkship Director will oversee the design, management, and evaluation of the OB/GYN clerkship, recruit adequate clinical faculty to deliver the clerkship, and plan and implement the didactic curriculum and assessments, including the delivery and coordination of lectures and skills workshops. This position reports to the Chair of Clinical Sciences and works collaboratively under the direction of the Associate Dean for Clinical Education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop clerkship curriculum and teaching materials including the course syllabus, learning objectives, and clerkship-specific requirements.
- Design/deliver outstanding student experiences.
- Assist in maintaining a learning environment that promotes mutual respect and professional behavior on the part of faculty, staff, and students.
- Develop and implement appropriate assignments, including OSCEs, quizzes, and other written assignments; and grade clerkship assignments and assessments as needed.
- Orient students at all teaching sites to the clerkship and all clerkship expectations.
- Monitor student assessment and provide timely feedback and assignment of grades.
- Monitor and track “required clinical experiences”, “required procedures”, “duty hour compliance”, “midpoint evaluation”, and other necessary quality-based clerkship metrics, many of which pertain to LCME accreditation.
- Work as part of a team with the other Clerkship Directors and clinical faculty to coordinate the appropriate integration of learning experiences across the clinical curriculum.
- Recruit, develop, and retain faculty preceptors and clerkship teaching sites.
- Identify, orient, supervise, and evaluate the clerkship faculty in their teaching roles.
- Develop materials and documents for both RUCOM and LCME accreditation relevant to the clerkship.
- Performs related duties as required or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Qualifications:
- An MD, DO, or equivalent degree with Board Certification in an appropriate area of specialization.
- Licensed to practice medicine in Nevada or eligible to obtain a Nevada license.
