ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides next-level guest service to internal and external guests. Demonstrates #AddLife culture in all interactions with guests and co-workers.
- Responsible for fostering an environment of support and motivation for Team Members.
- Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information in accordance with established procedures with company policy and state regulations.
- Loads racehorses into the starting gate.
- Together with the trainer works with horses to enter or break from the gate.
- Works in a fast-moving, fast-paced position inside a tight, confined metal structure.
- Maintains a log of all horses that come to the gate during training hours.
- Reports any problems with the horses or the gate.
- Maintenance of the starting gate.
- Resolves problems that are within the position's scope of authority and recommends courses of action to resolve problems that are beyond the scope of authority to the position’s supervisor.
- Keeps position supervisor informed of relevant activities.
- Other duties as assigned.
REGULATORY AND COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Attend required training sessions offered by the Company.
- Obtain and retain required license(s), including a Virginia Racing Commission (VRC) racing license.
- Perform the duties described in compliance with local laws and regulations.
- Take the necessary steps to ensure minors are not allowed to gamble or loiter in gambling areas, drink alcoholic beverages, or purchase tobacco.
- Have knowledge of the ordinances, regulations, laws, policies, and procedures relating to the Team Member’s department.
- Have knowledge of the Property’s programs to address problem gaming.
- Report any acts of wrongdoing of which the Team Member may have knowledge.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Thoroughbred horses.
- Ability to deal with wild, anxious horses that are unaccustomed to using the starting gate.
- Ability to professionally handle horses entering into starting gate.
- Must be available to work during all live race days at Colonial Downs.
- At least 3 years of experience preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos and write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
- Walking 25% of the time

- Bending and lifting 15% of the time
- Lifting/moving maximum of 50 lbs.
- Ability to see 20/20, color, and/or peripherally
