ROSS Design and Engineering is looking for a skilled CNC Set-Up Operator to join our manufacturing team. This role is responsible for setting up CNC machines, ensuring proper tooling, and verifying that initial runs meet quality standards before production begins. The ideal candidate has strong technical knowledge, experience in precision machining, and the ability to troubleshoot machine issues.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up CNC machines (mills/lathes) by installing tooling, fixtures, and materials according to job specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work orders to determine setup requirements.
- Load programs into CNC machines and make necessary adjustments to ensure proper operation.
- Perform first-piece inspections using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Make offset adjustments and tool changes as needed to meet specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot setup issues, including tool wear, alignment, and machine performance.
- Work closely with CNC Operators to ensure smooth production runs after setup.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace, following safety and quality guidelines.
- Document set up parameters and process improvements for future reference.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Experience: 2 years in CNC machine setup, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency with G-code, M-code, and CNC programming basics.
- Blueprint Reading: Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T.
- Precision Measurement: Skilled in using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, and other measurement tools.
- Problem-Solving: Strong troubleshooting skills to resolve set-up and machine-related issues.
- Attention to Detail: Ability to ensure accuracy and precision in setups and first-run parts.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50-80 lbs stand for long periods, and work in a shop environment.
Education & Experience:
- Technical certification or vocational training in CNC machining preferred.
